Hi Ooliters
Galaxias is a retro styled Elite clone, which recently retailed at £10. Now the dev is allowing the game to be downloaded for free and if you like it, he is asking if you would donate enough so that he can buy a beer :D
Its a bit like Arc Elite or maybe the Amiga ports of the original game and has optional high res textures available (also on the site) if you want to try those out too.

Here is a link to get the game http://www.jexea.co.uk/Galaxias/Home.html

Rather cool explosions, and, wow, a real rainbow laser! heehee! (must be in a galaxy with different physics :p )

Yea the explosions and stars do look rather nice, as for the lasers, they remind me of the copper effect you got with the Amiga :D

From the video, it looks kind of stuttery?

Stuttering movement was an issue early in the games development, but I played the latest version and it was smooth enough for me. My advice is to try it and see

Yeah I remember the stuttery movement turning me off. Especially when Oolite was so much better at the time. I never actually played it, since I couldn't justify the cost to myself, but I think I'll give it a try and throw up some impressions on SSC.

True, but contact the dev. If there is enough interest, he might consider a port to other platforms. You never know....
