Quote of the week!

Post by Cody »

... you really do need to have a unique game feature if you are going to be asking money for the game, especially a space trading game on the PC as you have that ten ton gorilla sat in the corner known as Oolite which is free.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

It's from a thread on SSC... the guy has some very interesting cockpit stuff going-on.

Nice to see SSC still going strong.. must pop in some time..

Also nice to see we have a very capable Naval Attaché stationed there.. :D
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I blame PAG for that! Mostly, the job involves posting pics in the Oolite subforum, and sneaking some quality music and other fluff into the Pioneer subforum.
I'm almost tempted to take up playing Pioneer, purely so I can drive its devs crazy with dumb-pilot questions... but I won't!

Well with Pioneer and Oolite what else do you need? One hardcore space sim and one badass space game!

Nonsense wrapped in jargon will do that. I made the mistake of looking up the original paper in case the BBC had completely misunderstood it ... and, well, for once they've made a decent summary of the important points.

Here's a self-quote, which was interestingly proved correct only today on the Frontier forum.

"The higher the average IQ in a community, the more likely it is that chaos will ensue".

The rationale:
Intelligent people have opinions. The higher their intelligence then the more they value their own opinions and the more likely they are to defend those opinions in the face of the opinions of other people. Hence they will argue that their opinion is correct even in the face of other opinions that may agree with 99% of their own opinion.

Now if everyone in the discussion has the same or similar level of intelligence, the more likely they in turn will have an ego about it, thus perpetuating the argument ad infinitum.

And thus explaining why I was thrown off Mensa's forums for being a ****. ;-)

Hmm... which says what about this mostly chaos-free forum that we frequent here?
