Hoopy Casino; I'm sure I did this wrong.

Good way to preface my problem right off the bat, lol.
I downloaded hOopy casino, extracted it, and placed the .oxp file in Home/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/Addons folder.
however, I'm not seeing anything different in game, I scroll through the compass bearings using the \ key, and I never see it popping up, even though I'm on a planet listed higher in tech than the readme calls for, I'm on Geerin in Chart 5 (Yeah, I've been hopping about some, for those following along at home, it's towards the top of the chart, roughly in the middle. There is a large 'hole in the stars' on the chart, it's it's right around there.) With no casino in sight.
This leads me to believe that, in fine fashion, I put the oxp in the wrong bloomin' place, and that's why I'm not seeing it appearing in game. As it has been established, I'm on Ubuntu, running Oolite 1.76. IIRC, the GNUstep folder wasn't present prior to installing the update, so I assumed (wrongly I reassume) that the addon folder there was where I should plonk the Casino OXP.
Any fixes, tips, or possible workarounds? Sorry to be the 'new post king' here, but I've been trying to sort this out and it's beyond me. I don't consider the casino addon integral, but I would like to poke about in some of the addons.

I think Hoopy Casinos requires a TL of 11 or higher... Geerin is a TL9. Have you definitely tried higher TLs?

I just popped over to Biceenon, still no good. Biceenon is ranked at tl 14. I scanned pretty thoroughly through the compass multiple times and never saw C pop.

Heh... scrub that idea then. I can't help with AddOns placement on Linux, as I'm a Windows man.

On Linux the addons folder may be Home/.Oolite/AddOns/ instead?
Also, the casinos aren't guaranteed even in appropriate TL systems - they show up about half the time. There's one in Zaonce, however, so the easiest test that it's installed and working may be to start a new commander and go there.

I managed to dig up a little factoid about the .Oolite meaning the folder was hidden, then discovering how to unhide hidden items (Ctrl-h) and have moved the file over.
Ah, thanks cim, I'll keep my eyes peeled for 'em, might just go back and make a new commander as you suggested. Thanks to all.

Fixed. Note to those using Ubuntu, Ctrl-H and you'll have to create a folder inside .Oolite named AddOns (case sensitive)
Thanks guys, sorry to have been the dumb bunny of the day. I'm learning slowly but surely.

That's an OK place to put the OXP but, when you say ".oxp
file", I hope you have extracted the .ZIP and put the .oxp
directory in place?

And that's the alternative place for .OXPs Why there are two, I don't know, but it confused me when I did my 2nd installation of Oolite.
And if you used a system-wide installation as opposed to a home installation, the directories are different again. At one point I had both installed and had to wipe the lot and start again.

From checking the Latest.log you can tell if the .OXP has been spotted by Oolite, and also whether you have inadvertently installed it under another .OXP, which seems to be an easy mistake to make.

The two places are probably to make it easier for everybody.
I was not aware that Linux also supported two places. The Oolite folder and the home directory. I think this info should be put into the [wiki]OXP[/wiki] page that explains the oxp installation. Currently it only mentions that mac users have two locations. Maybe a linux user can update that page.
I prefer the home folder as I now can have oolite itself in several places. I have my normal Oolite versions in my application folder and the trunk builds in my home directory. All now work with the same set of oxps. And specialized oxps that are only intended for specific builds, I put in the application folder with that Oolite version (e.g. the debug console).

I confess, I listened to that for about half a minute and muted the sound.
On a side note, I totally stink at the hoops. I was expecting something like poker, craps, etc. The hoops, I'm horrible at 'em!
For getting that sound out of your head, I suggest a nice dosage of Mozart, alternatively, Chuck Berry would work too, whatever rubs your fur the right way.
