My New Web Space

Due to some problems with my Windows-based hosting, I've recently upgraded and redesigned my web hosting package with my ISP and one of the things I've done is to ditch my clunky old "hughesd" domain name and register a new one.
Why should you bother? Well, there are a LOT of links out there to my website, primarily for timeline, TOGY and Imperial Courier stuff. I'll be embarking on a mission to root out any of my posts that have hughesd in there.
So, for the record, my new website is called
http://www.daftworks.co.uk. The direct link to the timeline is now in my signature, and the existing link to the paper model stuff has been updated.

Looking nice Selezen, but the sidebar with the search bar and news section seem to drop off the left side of the page for me. There is no horizontal scrollbar (but I'd only expect that if the whole-page width was a problem. The banner and link bar are OK.
I'm using Opera v 11.62 with Ubuntu Maverick. Screen resolution is 1360x768.

That's bizarre!
I've tried the site under Chrome, IE, IETab in Chrome, Firefox, Opera (11.62 in this case) and Safari on the iPhone and haven't seen the problem. I don't have a current installation of Ubuntu to try, so I couldn't tell you if it's a Linux/Ubuntu specific problem.
It may be that the rendering of the CSS is off on that browser (maybe due to a plugin), but not sure.
I've stretched the window to 2400x1024 on work monitor (dual monitor setup) and can't see any problems with scaling or relative size processing, and the CSS checks out OK.
Stumped.
However, we at DaftWorks value your custom and appreciate your time in notifying us of this potential problem. As a compensation for your inconvenience we offer you a 10% off discount on your next purchase from us.

Ha, yes CSS rendering can be a bit unpredictable.
No solution to offer, I'm afraid, but if you want to see what I've described, there is a full-screen screenie
here that might give a clue or two.

It is the same for me on Opera 10.1, plugins off (on winXP-sp1) no matter if using 1860 pixels horizontally, and it is most likely a problem on Opera's side, it happens on some other pages too.
(only I have the Opera toolbar on the left side
)
(or maybe the the webserver when hearing "Opera" sending some IE-optimised /meant-for-firefox or some such page, which then get's misinterpreted by Opera browser.)

Hmm. I did a check on the CSS validity and there could be some issues with CSS3 tags being used that aren't compatible with Opera. For example, the style sheet uses moz-border-radius and similar, which are not compatible with Opera.
There may be other formatting there that would offset the formatting. I think there are some tables being used in there, and some versions of Opera apparently have issues with the rendering of table columns with no cellpadding specified.
Either that or there's a fault in the div#pages somewhere.
