Randomshipnames.oxp v 1.4 released

Good news for all of you who downloaded and tested the randomshipnames preview:

The final OXP is now available. Thanks to Disembodied it has now vastly more variation in names, also including traders et al. which weren't named in the preview.

Download link and some example screen shots [EliteWiki] in the Wiki.

Enjoy! :D (I do.)

EDIT1: version 1.1 contains more name variants for more classes of ships. Make sure to check the example gallery in the Wiki. Now included are Rock Hermits and GalCop ships. The latter have a letter-and-number designation scheme, where the last number indicates the galaxy the ship is stationed in, and the preceding letter(s) indicate its home system, or—in case of Naval ships—their (N)aval provenance.

Also, the whole script is reorganized, and ships have to go through one less if-clause before they're christened. More details of the changes in the readMe.

EDIT2: version 1.2 contains a hook for ship designers who don't want their ships getting random names (for instance if another ship already comes with an individual name). This is now possible via the script_actions key in a shipdata. Details in the readMe and on the Wiki.

EDIT3: version 1.3 contains more words in the lists and more naming schemes. Some more cases of inclusion and exclusion are also dealt with. Details are in the readMe.

EDIT4: version 1.4 makes the names of Rock Hermits persistent over multiple visits by storing them in the save file.

Cool. Nicely adds some more "realness" to the Ooniverse.

Yeah, don't it just. The first one I came across was the Ceesxe Maru, a 'naughty' Boa with its clean escorts! Sweet!

So you're currently somewhere north in Galaxy 1 (and you're probably running [EliteWiki] offender_traders.oxp as well).

Heh... I'm being tracked! Yep, I'm north in Santaari at Anbeen, and of course I'm running Offender Traders! They are my compadres!

Downloaded :). I feel that it is these sort of OXP's that add a whole lot of flavor. Excellent work you two :).

I reckon that many traders would stay reasonably close to home, especially those who name their ship after their home system. Thus you had to be in the vicinity of Ceesxe in order to meet the "Ceesxe Maru". Escorts, however, would have a much wider radius of action, easily getting many light years away from home. Thus you could find an escort named "Ceesxe Maru" practically everywhere in Galaxy 1.

I'm now wondering if rock hermits might have individual, and quite possibly bizarre, names also.

You could just shoot'em and find out what his ship is called.

Also, you can't. Turns out I forgot to include defense ships in the to-be-named entities. :x

Well, seems there will be version 1.1 coming (but not today).
