Finding Supernovas

Gentleman,

I am a keen player of Oolite for the PC but recently purchased Elite v2 for the Amiga!

Ive completed the first 2 missions (Constrictor and Thargoid Documents), and have jumped to Galaxy 4 where I am now trying to find the SuperNova mission.

I have 460,000 elite points.
My rating is Dangerous.
I have 15 days of gameplay.
I have the Naval energy unit .
I have completed approximately 40 jumps since entering Galaxy Number 4.
I have read the German Keilis scan translation, which seems to be incorrect for the Amiga version.

Can anyone who has played the Amiga Elite Version 2 help me to find this mission!!

Most of the other guides for the different platforms suggest that missions are triggered by certain variables, and combinations:

- Number of jumps
- Occupying a certain any given Galaxy.
- Number of Elite points/Kills
- Jumping to a specific planet

Keilis scan suggests that:

3. Mission: Save a station crew from a supernova
You cannot get this mission at a station. The player has to look for it himself.
Look for your Elite Score. Around 270000 points, you should lookout for mission 3. Look on the local star chart for a star that is going to become a Supernova soon. Find and fly to it. The message "Fuel leak" will appear. Fly to the sun and scope up fuel.
Now fly to the station and pick up the people there. Launch and immediately jump to a target system. The sun will go supernova in 15 seconds so you have to be fast. At successful docking somewhere else you'll get a reward of 1kg of gem stones. NOTE: Normally you buy those in gram quantities

Can someone please help, i'm getting elite-itis!

PS

If there is a specific thread for this kind of query i apologize in advance and welcome instructions on where to delete and repost.

Regards,

Matt

As in "Frontier, Elite 2" - yes? if so, wrong forum, never mind wrong thread! Try here: Frontier Forums However...

What are you actually playing? I don't remember any Supernova mission in Frontier. What makes you think there is one?

Hi matt and welcome. Do you mean Elite Plus, by any chance?
If so, do you have a Galactic Hyperdrive fitted? That may just help, but my memories of Elite Plus are fading.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your replies.

No I mean the original Elite for the Amiga by Mr Micro. It just says V2 on the load screen, definitely the original Amiga elite though.

Thanks guys!

Then I repeat - do you have a Galactic Hyperdrive fitted? If not, try it.

I havent had it fitted, although i will equip one now.

Do you think this could be a pre requisite of the mission popping up?

Mat

3.9) Amiga Elite (Telecomsoft, 1988 & Firebird, date unknown)

There are 4 or 5 missions:

Supernova
Constrictor
Thargoid Documents
Thargoid Invasion

2.4) Missions

The following list includes all missions in all versions of Elite, of which I am aware. In sections on individual Elites, they shall be referred to by name.

1) Tribble...
2) Supernova
You enter a system and all your fuel drains away in a leak. When you dock, you are told the sun is going nova and are asked if you will take refugees. Accept, and all your cargo is dumped to make space and you have to launch immediately. Refuse, and you are kicked out anyhow. You now have to use a galactic hyperspace or scoop the star for fuel. Your reward: Some gem stones, or 1000CR (varied with version).

3) Stolen Police Ship...
4) Thargoid Documents...
5) Asteroid Bombardment...
6) Cloaking / Masking Device...
7) Thargoid Invasion...
8 ) Constrictor...

Thank you for the kind welcome!

Im curious about your suggestion to equip the galactic hyperdrive...I will certainly try it though!

Should i continue to move around Galaxy 4, or go to Galaxy 5? Has anyone actually found this mission, and if so can they remember where!

Matt :)

Yes... fit the Galactic Hyperdrive, then go make half a dozen or so normal hyperspace jumps around a few systems.

FWIW, I just got a fuel leak on my very first jump after getting the galactic hyperdrive, which I bought at the first station I hit that sold them in G4. I guess my passenger is not going to be too chuffed: not only will I not quite deliver him on time, but he will be in the wrong bit of the galaxy, and need another 8 jumps to get home!

Not always needed. Scooping fuel at a starting super nova is a bit daring. :P In systems with a very small sun, it is still possible to scoop fuel at the sun before going to the main station and so have a way to stay in the galaxy.
