I downloaded the OXP, but don't see it in the game yet. I know space is REALLY big, does this ship replace the Adder and thus I need to find a place that sells ADDERS to be able to outfit myself with one?

I so want to explore the oolite 'verse in my own Firefly.

wthomas - I believe that this is simply a typo in the ship data file in Config, (See code below), which I am sure Staer9 will amend when he gets the chance.

Code: Select all

	model = "s9_firefly.dat";
	name = "Adder";
In the meantime if you have a script editor such as VIM, (which is free to download), you can open the shipdata file in the copy of the OXP you have and replace the above section of the code with the code below.

Code: Select all

	model = "s9_firefly.dat";
	name = "Firefly";
Let me know if you have any problems.

EDIT - I have just updated the shipdata file in the OXP I downloaded and it has fixed the problem.

Thanks, I'll try that out. Now I just need to know how to hack my own ship so that I'm flying a Firefly.

Search in oolite-saves/whatever_name_your_save_has.oolite-save for ship_desc and change the next line from whatever ship you were flying before into:

Code: Select all

    <key>ship_desc</key>
    <string>s9_firefly_player</string>
oolite-saves should be in your home directory or on Windows in Documents and Settings\your_name.

It might be a good idea to create a folder in oolite-saves to dock your hacked ships in (mine is oolite-saves/cheats/). Just don't forget to hold that control key when going in or out of folders in the Oolite load/save interface.

I'd make a copy of your save file and change that.
Changing 'saves' is often detected by the game - it might log a 'cheat detected' or even fail to work in extreme cases.
Swapping ships will also mess-up the shipyard records in the save (the list of ships you have bought as you've gone long) which will effect things like the resale value.
If you want a Firefly as your permanent ship, the only 'proper' way to do it is to buy one in the normal way. :wink:

So after downloading this, I now have Firefly-class transports, YT-1300s, and Constitution-class cruiser in my Ooniverse. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to just what that'll get me?
Got all turned around, lost my nav connection... Where am I now?

I was more concerned about temporal/spatial issues...

This is neither the time nor the place for that discussion...

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

According to the Firefly wiki, the Serenity has a max payload of 164,900 lbs, which works out around 74 metric tonnes, plus 9 passenger cabins (although can fit 2 in each):
http://firefly.wikia.com/wiki/Serenity,

Would setting this make it unbalanced?

Yes, definitely. A Firefly is a small ship, and I’d expect it to have less capacity than a Cobra III. The nature of Oolite cargo packaging is a recurring topic, but it’s fair to say that consensus is that 1 t in the game is a bigger unit than one tonne.

I love the ship, great job. As for myself I plead temporary insanity. I did look that up and post that stuff BEFORE i read all the pages. Live and learn. You know what's cool on a spaceship? Soundgarden. But Fiddle music gives you a certain feeling... when you're in the vast black wilderness on a tiny ship... OKAY i'll stop!
