Symbols in Strict Mode's short range chart?

I have another Strict Mode suggestion if no one mind:
Would it be possible to add symbols to the short range chart (that show up by pressing i on the keyboard) in Oolite's Strict Mode? I feel those government/economy symbols are a great time-saver and don't directly affect the Elite-flavored gameplay in Strict compared to, for example, being able to buy/fly other ships, strafing left/right, or using OXPs.
I believe none of the original Elites had those symbols but most of them didn't support mouse movement of the crosshair for the short-range map, either. Why not another time-saver?
