Full source code freeze

Post by another_commander »

We have started gearing up towards the Mythical Next Stable Release, which may turn out to be not so mythical after all. The first step was done yesterday. The version number in Oolite's source code tree has been rolled to 1.76. Nightly builds are already reporting this version number.

Following the version number bump, we are entering full source code freeze as of today, December 4th. Full source freeze means that no more changes are to be made on the actual game source code, apart from fixing reproducible major bugs that greatly affect normal game play. Any other bugs will have their fixes postponed for after version 1.76. Changes to documentation files etc. are still possible in the source tree. The full freeze will last for about ten days, giving people some time to test what is going to be published as Oolite's final new stable version.

Note that due to time constraints, the MNSR will be published as Test Release and not as Deployment configuration as was intitally planned. This is mainly because we have not been able to maintain the originally announced rapid test releases schedule, following the last major release of the game. As a result, all game and debug features that have been present in the latest test releases will remain also in v1.76.
