Jump Failed

I don't know if any you Commd'rs have had this, or maybe it's a new feature.

I was doing a normal jump and got the message it failed, no reason given.
But it destroyed a ton of computers!!

My normal jump sequence is to leave the station, turn 90 degrees all at full speed, wait about 10 seconds and initiate jump sequence.

Is this something we can look forward to happening now and again?

Alex,
Your technique is very similar to mine when leaving a station.... I do get the jump failed message along with a ton of equipment destroyed. I have accepted it as a fact of life... your engines malfunction... the cargo space next to them get the brunt of the malfunction.... still, it is more than a little annoying, losing 100-102 credits because of a malfunction, kinda along the same lines of the infamous fuel leak in the middle of a battle. I keep extra fuel tanks handy just in case.

Ye I've had the fuel leaks at the most cursed of times.
But the failed jump is a first.
I only upgraded to 1.75.3 the other night, so though it might be something new or a small glitch?

Could "Jump Failed" be the results of OXPs?

I've had this a couple of times recently as well. I assumed it was a game 'feature' that might have been added/enhanced recently (although I've not heard of this).
Definitely not related to OXPs as I only have three purely eye-candy OXPs installed.

It's been in the source code for a good while and is a symptom of your ship needing a Maintenance Overhaul.

It's quite rare - there is a small chance of malfunction when you need an overhaul. Most of those malfunctions will be a misjump, if not fuel leak, and even more rarely jump failure with internal damage (equipment or cargo).

I, too, have had equipment break down because of a jump, my Fuel Injectors.
I was going to ask about it, but I found this topic. :) Looks like I'm not alone.

Interesting, Never had equipment fail, just cargo. I think Cptn Murphy hit it on the head, I got a maintenance notification several jumps later, ignored it and got another misjump so headed to the nearest level 12 planet and got the rust bucket overhauled and didn't have the problem for quite some time.

I think it's a beautiful feature. Thanx for letting us know about it. Makes running an old Python with no maintenance an interesting experience with 'Dubious Profit' at the end of each run. :)

Its partially a new feature introduced in 1.75. Equipment breakage or cargo destruction on bad maintained ships always happened since 1.65 and should be just as frequent as fuel leaks. But I also, never had those messages before. It could be that the notification was lost in the tunnel?
Anyhow, since 1.75 the failure also leads to not jumping and now draws the attention better.

That's one of the things I love about this game. Is the progression and "easter eggs" built into it. It makes a lot of sense a ship would start to break down if neglected. So it adds to the immersion.

Well done the Dev Team :D 8)

This makes sense. In my case I was doing two or three sunskim hops often to very low tech worlds. So the overhaul must have been due, but because of the hops and low TL I wasn't being offered the overhaul till I got to a sufficiently high tech planet. And then it was often on the second page of equipment and easy to not notice.
Ah! Hmmmmm?

Should that be changed? Maybe a mission screen saying that your ship needs an overhaul?

It would be good if we could get less direct feedback – say, an intermittent stutter in the ship's engine noise, the occasional flicker of the HUD, or suchlike ...
