Switeck, SandJ, don't mind my flippant suggestion...I just like to see things go BOOOM!!!!

Your approach from an immersion point of view makes more sense.

I fully agree with the Q explosion - why not, if even ECMing a fuel pod can go that way; or if a RL tanker explosion can be this destructive (while carrying only crude oil), what would a severely damaged tanker full of quirium do?

Also, the Q-blast still wouldn't leave any debris to pick up, and there's nothing preventing the player from getting a hefty bounty.

One of my new stations is in proximity to the sun, so i'll keep an eye on this OXP and try and make sure nothing conflicts. it'll be a while before it's ready for launch tho, i've got some scripting to work out for it first. in between last tweaks to my King Cobra, the King Cobra's HUD (stealing from Common's curvey displays), and several other non-Oolite things.

If said station and tankers belong to the ruling corporation, then they're effectively system ships; the security would probably be provided by the corporation's own paramilitary division (or maybe a hired subsidiary mercenary agency), making them also system ships.

unless they're owned by Coolgate, in which case they'll be protected by an Invisible Shield (TM) ;-)

A preview of the fuel refinery station. I havnt textured this yet. I however feel that this station might be a bit CPU hungry.

Beautiful. Will be a GPU eater! How many Polys? (when triangulated for Oolite)

(How crude can you get away making the spheres so they still look cool and not silly?)

Due to the high value of their product and the requirements for fuel across the eight galaxies, GalCop granted the fuel companies special dispensation to police their stations and production systems themselves. Currently, the favoured craft used by Taxacoo is the Sparrow class fighter. The Sparrow class fighter is a highly maneuverable single seat fighter armed with military lasers fore and aft as well as ECM hardened missiles. Their well paid crack shot pilots, often drawn from the ranks of Elite commanders are responsible for the protection of the fuel refinery, as well as escorting tankers within system and through witchspace to their destination. Even Thargoids have sometimes been known to think twice before attacking a well guarded fuel shipment.

Fuel tankers will regularly be escorted by these craft, and a number of them are docked within the fuel refinery station at all times, ready for instant mobilisation should the refinery come under attack. Additionally, these vessels act as police ships for the system. Therefore they have been designed to operate just as well in a lanetary atmosphere as in deep space. It is not recommended to approach a fuel tanker or refinery if your status is 'fugitive' as you may be attacked.

This particular brand new Sparrow is still in the paint shop, the Orqubian painters having disappeared off for lunch on the excuse of 'letting the paint dry'. (Think 8 foot tall praying mantis, standing on hind legs, with 4 arms. BTW they are vegetarian)

Back to the real world, this is what I came up with whilst using Staer9's Blender tutorial. The starting cube is quite apparent in the quite dumpy shape of the Sparrow.

Dinky little ship - another high poly monster?

Re: 'T' logo and the name - that logo has already been used in Your Ad Here with a different name.

Standby and I'll dig it out...

Its currently 1900 polys and 970 vertices. Dimensions are 37 x 34 x 19, but I might shrink it a bit further.

The refinery is 6000 faces with 3000 vertices and its dimensions are 1350 x 1350 x 2100.

How easy is it to remove some extraneous polys without messing up the UV map? (using blender)
