I don't know, but I know how to find out.

Load an Adder model - wich is 8m high - into wings3d. Divide by 4.

It is well known that the Oolite ships are huge. The dimensions are stated on the wiki page for each ship, and the Size Chart I produced a while ago puts the core ships in context with each other. The dimensions are in metres so it should be easy enough to get a good sense of what 2m would look like against them.
This size factor is worth considering when designing new ships, as if they are too small, they will look really silly, if you can actually see them at all.

Odd thing, last week I was referencing some old elite manuals and the dimensions of the core ships are accurate but the units is in feet, not meters. :?

Universal expansion? :P

General board consensus is that scales are a bodged mess. There's no point in trying to work out a human's size to a ratio that will make everyone happy. It's easiest to assume that the "units" in Wings3D are metres and work to that.

Also, be careful of creating ships that are too small to shoot or see and thus unbalance the combat. Nothing should be smaller than a thargon, in my opinion...

My first ship in RL(tm) scale turned out to fit inside a cargo pod...

Methinks a cargo pod should be able to hold some 10 sardine-canned slaves, or 5 marines and their armoured EVA gear.

The Russians did a nice one recently:

http://radikal.ru/F/s47.radikal.ru/i116 ... f.jpg.html

I think that might be the "feet" option. (by the way those images came from here: http://www.elite-games.ru/)
well worth the read if you know your Cyrillic.

My own observations are more metres orientated. :

It is a tricky one. Hang on, I have the strangest feeling we've done this scale thing before.................
4 words spring to mind; Let's Not Bother... Eh?

Funnily enough NOT the way the Russians saw it, they saw a problem and immediately on page one started assembling a team to fix it;

It is a translation so take "the spirit of the law" not the letter. My thoughts:
"There maybe trouble ahead..... (like getting your inflated boa into dock) But while there's moonlight and music and love and romance..... etc"

That's very inspirational to see another perspective on the oolite dimensions. Thanks ClymAngus. :)

Whilst most of this is conducted in English, it is important to remember that those who don't are just as smart, devious and enjoy oolite just as much. We worry that few people care about oolite, maybe with the help of goggle translate and it's ilk, we could cast our net a little wider. :)

There are lots of people waiting to be translated, carrying on conversation that we would wish to be involved in, or at least understand. All we have to do, is spare the time to talk to them. It is easy to contain oneself in an intellectual linguistic vacuum. Hell, we do it without thinking, I certainly do! But if you have a passion, in this day and age language should be no barrier to involvement.

Just a thought.

Saskatchewan Eh? I do miss a proper winter.

the bounding box of an escape pod is given as 7.165 x 6.410 x 6.188.

that might be marginally big enough to be taken as feet, though a human my size wouldn't be able to straighten the legs.
