Higher bounties for asteroids (and boulders, etc.) within the safety zone. It would make sense, and add a (small!) bit of extra interest.
(I don't know if this has been suggested before. A quick search or two turned up nothing.)

Do you get asteroids within the station aegis? I don't think I've ever seen that.

Only during the Asteroid Storm mission I think, but I've never seen it in the main game.

Hi Smivs, hi 'Hoggy
I get asteroids in the safety zone, and without a mission running (I'm pretty sure). But I do have two asteroid-y OXPs installed: asteroidStorm and zygoRoids.

I've seen asteroids not very far from the main station on a very rare basis -- seems to happen with stations somewhat along either the beacon-planet route or planet-sun route.

Yes, they should be very rare. Asteroids are only scattered in an area within scanner range of the line witchpoint-planet. When UK_leiter sees them regularly near the main station, it is probably because he did all the test from a station that also lies in that zone. Generally most stations lie outside that zone.
asteroidStorm and zygoRoids don't add asteroids themselves, only supply alternative models that are positioned by the core game.

It's been a while since I played it, but I thought Asteroid Storm fired little Asteroids at the station as well as the station killer? (I know that doesn't necessarily mean they start spawned within the Aegis, but they can be found within the Aegis at least in the mission system if not elsewhere) or have I caught the wrong end of the stick and you're referring to generic behaviour of Asteroid Storm everywhere, and it does not add additional asteroids within the Aegis but just relies on the game engine populator.

That is the only exception: In the mission system asteroids are added by script. During the mission many, but after the mission the script also adds asteroids in deep space with a flightpath that passes the station aegis. I intentionally added them randomly in a very wide area in deep space so it is virtually impossible for the player to find the 'addition' area as it looks weird to have an area were asteroids suddenly 'appear'
It was an idea of Micha to do it that way. In the original legacy version of the script the asteroids had a missile AI with the station as target. At that time the best that could be done, but it looked strange that they all went for the station. In the current release all asteroids come from one general direction and head towards the planet. On their way they pass the station. (and some are explicit placed on a collision course with the station). When they miss the station, you see hem impacting the planet.
So when it is long ago you visited the Leesdi system, it is surely worth to have another look there.

It was (mainly) me being dim! There's a script in ZygoRoids v1.1.oxp (in the Config folder) that generates asteroids, for testing purposes, on launch from the station. I've renamed the script - and now have no safety-zone asteroids.
