Good Oolite missions...

I know there's no "Gotta have" list of OXPs, but I want to know if there are any missions I should try. I am rated Deadly so I can take care of myself, and I've only done two missions ever: Cloaking Device and Asteroid Storm. Any missions you think I might like to try (my apologies if there's a duplicate thread out there)?
Edit: I should mention I have the money to do missions in any galaxy. I probably won't do one in G4, though.

Righto, Ryan. I have a mission for you.

This is a map of the Eastern Reach:

And this is a map of the Western Reach:

The rules are simple: all you have to do is upload a similar map - showing some other planet names I can check - proving you have reached this particular sector of the galaxy (it's not really Sector 2). You can use any OXP equipment, no matter how exotic or uber, spend any amount of credits, edit your save file, whatever. Ask anyone for help. You just have to find me.

Mission accepted! :D Please allow days of research, though.

I am aware of that page, I frequent the OXP list. The only problem is there's no (or little) feedback from commanders who have completed the mission, so I thought I'd ask if there's one the community says I need to do.
I've noticed, Fatleaf, that a lot of your messages to me lately have been less than friendly... :(

Well, from my experience there is a lot of feedback on nearly every mission. A lot of it in older posts.

And you wonder why I have been less than friendly here are a few statistics,
DF 9.86 posts per day, RH 6.45 posts per day.
DF joined June 11th RH May 20th and already between you, you have 974 posts!

Every time I log in here now all I see is a pointless tit for tat between the two of and very little substance. It gets tiring.

I guess some people are a bit more talkative than you. As for worthless chit-chat, I admit (and agree) that it should go to PM after a bit, just like this matter. Now, back to missions.

Notice: "A lot of it in older posts." Sorry, I'm not that good at all with searching the forums, even with the Chrome plugin.

Harsh challenge, Wildeblood! Although you have got me wondering how easy it is to create one, and what other interesting networks can be found...

As Fatleaf says, there is generally a lot of feedback in the respective oxp threads. Choose a mission you want to know more about, and then search for the name of that mission! It shouldn't take too long to find something that way. Not particularly difficult...

I've played through most of the missions that are around, and have enjoyed them all. They can add quite a bit of variety to your gameplay. I'd obviously recommend completing all of the native missions, to get the full Oolite experience. After that, well, it depends on what you want. Cloaking Device is barely a mission, and Asteroid Storm is pretty limited. You can read some brief descriptions here, and the difficulty roughly corresponds to the kill count necessary or how high the starting galaxy number is. But playing through some of the really basic early ones can get you in the mindset and know what to expect for some of the later ones. Generally, I've found missions written by Thargoid to be pretty good, and as for large epic missions, there's the classic Assassin's Guild, and Trident Down. I haven't started Iron Raven yet, but from my experience with other oxps by Ramirez, I'd say it's pretty likely to be an epic one as well.

I've been in G1 and G2 a whole lot, with my kill count at over 1000, and I've NEVER been invited to do the Constrictor hunt! :? Here are my mission variables, if they can help (Constrictor Hunt is highlighted):

That means you were offered the mission and did not complete it.

Hmm... I was never offered the mission. Any way I could reset the variables?

I predict it will take Ryan about three days to find me. I have already posted several clues around the BB in various threads.

Just delete it. Simples.

What I would say is, stick to a commander that does not cheat till he gets the experience, But I must say I am getting rather contradictory posts from you mentioning you have that score or another. It will help the board to listen to advices.

You must have had that mission offer when using Oolite 1.65. Around Oolite 1.71 the mission name has changed into "oolite-constrictor-hunt" and you won't see the old missioninfo that was added under 1.65 when playing the current Oolite version. You can replace "constrictor_hunt" by "oolite-constrictor-hunt". That way you have the mission-info back at the F5F5 page. According the variables, the mission is still running and you can pick it up when in G1 or G2.

or delete the 2 lines:

Code: Select all

<key>mission_conhunt</key>
<string>STAGE_1</string>
to make the mission fully restart in G1 or G2.

Y’know, it might be useful if OXP pages linked to their primary discussion/announcement thread.
