Cannot Enter Into Carrier Contracts?

I just started a new game and bought myself a Boa Class Cruiser, with all the trimmings. I have 100 creds in the bank now, and about 125 TC cargo hold (I have a few passenger berths). Why can I not enter into any hauling contracts? They're all grayed out! (Mind you, one of them was for hauling 75 TC cargo...)

With the haulage contracts, you effectively buy the goods first (the first column of figures) and then have a guaranteed buyer & price for them (first plus second column) and so a guaranteed return (the second column  )

This does mean that you do need some funds to be able to take on such contracts. With only 100Cr on hand, it sounds like you can't buy any of the contracts so they are greyed out.

And yep, it is necessary for this buy/sell mechanism, or you could "promise" to deliver something then never be heard from again

Ah HAH! Thank you, that explains it. So, instead of dropping myself down to only 100 creds, I'll have to do 10,000 like my other savefiles.

Don't be disappointed with the poor returns on early contracts, their main purpose is to increase your reputation to access the more profitable gold/platinum/gems ones. Although those do take quite an initial investment to get.

I'm also going to be transporting passengers and using HyperCargo eventually to do some of my own trading. That should help.

Hypercargo isn't compatible with passenger berths, and also can't be used to haul contracts (unless they fit into one bay).

I'll keep that in mind. :) I might just leave passenger transport to my third save file, "RaceRat"...a young racer and passenger transporter in a Firefly.
