Thought it would be nice if someone could up date the Wiki page
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Caduceus for my Caddy Omega the Gertrude Oblitz to be included in the list of identified Omega ships.
I'm afraid I can not admit or deny the possible existance of the so called "Sun Gun".
Gertrude as a living ship has her secrets. Even from me!

Done.
Nice to know I'm not the only one rich enough to own a Caddy Omega.

Err.. "Sun Gun" is a thought of weapon, neither seen or unseen, no real proof.
"Gertrude Oblitz" is the ship!
Would really like it if this could be fixed.
Thanks.

I do hope you asked the authors permission before you changed his page. As it would be very rude not to.
Also there is already a Caduceus page it would have been better in that thread.

When making edits, the Wiki says that everything on the wiki is editable, so I think it's OK. Here's a direct quote from the wiki:
Please note that all contributions to Elite Wiki may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then do not submit it here.
if you don't want something edited, i guess you should keep it off the Wiki.

The quote above is a generic comment true for all Wiki's. However please think of this as a gentleman's/Ladie's agreement. We always try to ask for permission if we contribute to or edit other peoples work. Even if we correct spelling mistakes or errors we try to inform the owner or original author of what we have done. I don't think anything wrong has been done here, but out of courtesy I recommend that you at least inform the original author of the Wiki page/Caduceus OXP.

First Thanks to Cmdr RyanHoots for adding my Gertty to the list.
I also fully agree with Gimi about asking the author if it's ok to edit, But I couldn't see who wrote the page to ask.
I didn't think it would be much of a problem as I didn't actually want to edit the page, just make a small ammendment. As gertty is now quite well know to be cruising the galaxies.
I just hope the author doesn't mind the small addition.

So where is the respect for other peoples work? I don't know if you have noticed when looking at how people treat other peoples oxp's when they would like to use them in some way. They always ask permission first. And 99% of the time it is given but just on that odd occasion it is not and that decision is always respected. That is what makes this BB a bit different than a lot of other places around the net. What you are advocating is a selfish me first attitude which lacks maturity and consideration. Just imagine if everybody had that attitude?
So yes according to the letter of the law you can do what you want. But what happened to principle?

The Caduceus is
ClymAngus's baby, including the backstory

A quick look at the
OXP table would tell you who the author of any OXP is, and therefore almost certainly who compiled the Wiki page. Even if the page was done by somebody else, the author would be a good starting point.

The problem with arbitrarily adding new ships to the list created by ClymAngus is that there is a reason for the ships he created and named to exist, hence the Wiki Page and hence the backstory...
I'd personally be quite miffed if somebody decided to edit my user profile for DaddyHoggy or the Snoopers page - but according to RyanHoots, because they're on the Wiki they're open to a free-for-all, I find this attitude surprising, worrying and unwelcome.

I can see everyone's point of view, and I think a long debate will follow that will be quickly cut short by an Admin, likely another_commander...
A Wiki is not an OXP. OXPs are more like programs, which can have one of many licenses, each treating edits to the program in different ways. So, I guess if somebody wanted to publish a closed-source OXP licensed under a EULA, they could.
But the idea behind a Wiki is tat ANYBODY can edit ANY page on it at ANY time. It's a community project. So because the fundamental idea is to make a databank of Oolite information, and it's a Wiki, you are allowed to edit.
But I think, before caddy users go in a horde to add their ship, I recommend (but due to the above reasons I can't enforce this) that you only add ships to such lists that appear in Oolite fanfic or is already widely known. My Caddy, Sword of Fire, AKA Komodo, qualifies.

You still are not getting it. In this community it is not all about what the rules say can be or can't be done but personal respect for another users work. You apparently do not respect other users work. All you can see is what you personally can gain, not respecting other people.
The purpose of those Wiki pages is to give easy access to a back story to an oxp, which at times can be just as important as the oxp in itself. If you had bothered to take some time learning and understanding how this community works you would have understood this.
