Have you ever hacked your savefile to fly a missile?

You know you've done it. It's late night, you're on Oolite, and you're bored. What to do? Why not just go through the shipdata.plist code of all the installed OXPs and fly some restricted ships, like a Missile, barrel, Rattle Cutter, the Vampire Diamondback that has four extra guns, or something of the like. Have you?
On a side note, have you ever become an asteroid and compared the handling with the Anaconda to see if the statement, "Steers like a rogue asteroid," is correct?

"the Vampire Diamondback that has four extra guns"

you can't do that.

An earlier Dredgers OXP I think lets you pilot a "strut". It's not fun.
I have experimented similarly with making strange things happen in Oolite...like a station hyperspace jumping, leaving behind a stinking huge wormhole that lasts for days. I don't know if a planet or sun can jump yet...I keep forgetting to try that.

My record is a wormhole lasting for 3.5 months :D

I never tried that, so I wouldn't know. Thanks, now I need not (that would be some flight...).

Nah, I just tend to let of steam by throwing asteroids at main stations and spawning black holes and stuff like that.

The "strut" is a sub-entity of the core game's rock hermit model. The player flyable strut is a mistake in the "Illicit Unlock" OXP, the author of which apparently didn't realize it was a sub-entity, not an NPC ship.

Sort of makes your poll pointless, Ryan. On my to-do list: player-flyable Black Monks gunship, barrel & astromine. The other possibilities don't really interest me, as they don't have any in-game potential.

What I did do last week, was create the "personal base" that Dragonfire wished for, that follows the player around so there is always somewhere to re-fuel and re-equip nearby. It only took me half an hour, so I don't know why we haven't heard Dragonfire mention the idea recently. Don't do it, it completely destroys any semblance of "game balance" remaining.

I have flown ships that are not for the player for testing purposes only. I seem to think for some reason that if a ship and all its shipdata properties works and looks good while I'm flying it then it will work and look good for the player to see it as an npc ship. Biggest mistake I have seen is weapon and exhaust positions. I think half the ships out there need a once over to "correct" the shipdata.plist.

I might just do that one of these days.

Incidentally, I think I might end up creating a "Hacked Thargoid" that makes it possible for players to buy modified Thargoid ships.

Flying a missile?

Never have, but it might be good for a laugh.
I'll climb onto a nuclear torpedo someday and do the scene from Dr. Strangelove. Gotta buy a ten-gallon hat now...

I've occasionally thought about trying out one of the small escort type ships, just to see how they handle. But I'm never been interested enough to bother...

I'd never hack things to try an 'illicit' ship...I'm quite happy with my Thargoid Warship, thanks

I actually have a savefile I use a lot that has a Thargoid warship... I also have a Thargon savefile. Too bad the Warship is too big for good external views. :(
