Just a quick thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to any and all who set this up.
I played elite for years as a kid, I found elite plus some time ago, but always ran way too fast on my pc.
This OOlite is excellent, wont do my marriage much good though!
I want some oxp's to improve the graphics so far I have installed:
Deepspace & deepspace HUD & GRiffs ships
Any other suggestions??
Rich

Hi godfodder and welcome… I’ve still got Elite Plus, and very occasionly I run it for a nostalgia blast. As regards which OXPs to install… my advice is start with eye-candy, like DH Systems or System Redux… beautiful planets and moons. The BGS set is excellent for docked screens with ambient sounds… all can be found on the
OXP list.
When you feel at home in your Ooniverse, then you can start adding mission OXPs… but generally, don’t install too many at once.
Enjoy...

"Welcome the the Friendliest board this side of Riedquat(tm)" Godfodder (and excellent album by Ned's Atomic Dustbin I might add), you're amongst good company (of ex-Elite players) and you've asked the age old question...
To my mind - my favourites are (on top of what you have installed):
BGS
Snoopers
Asteroid Storm (it's a mission but it adds nice Asteroids to the game)
Your Ad here (beautiful Constores to admire - adverts to laugh at)
CommonSenseOTB has done some lovely HUDs
Famous Planets or System Redux (not sure if these two can play nicely side-by-side yet)
(However, these are all eye-candy/immersion enhancers - I don't use much else that makes the game easier or harder so on these things others will have better advice)

System Redux and Famous Planets will work together. O and welcome to the boards.

Welcome Cmdr. godfodder,
As has been said, You are in good company, friendly and open.
As as 'eye candy' goes...
Well there is so, so much. more depends on your TDM (This Damn Machine) then what is really there.
Some of the Cmdrs have hugelly biggies and some have wee yins.
I think finding the game to fit you and your tdm is part of the game.
I can't play some of the all inclusive stuff, tdm just can't.
But can play heaps that are available as their own.
Remember some oxps only work in their own galaxy's.
So if you have any questions, there will be many Cmdrs. that know the answers.
Remember;
They all fly their own ships.
Do wrong they may shoot you down.
If you don't get them before...

Yeah, especially his newest numeric HUD. Check it out on his oxp page. It really adds to the game, and I can't say enough about it. Welcome, and enjoy the Ooniverse.

Thanks for your replies fellas. I'll have a look at BGs & the system redux.
I never managed to get as far as missions in the original game, just been offered some trumbles, I declined but now sort of wish I had tried them out. Is it a one time only offer?
Just tried my hand at thargoid killing.... thay look outstanding with Griffs work, but bloody hell they are tough!
Also what do the blue circles near some space stations do are they wormholes? I tend to notice them just before I dock, then they are gone when I leave port

Trumbles should be offered again. Because of a bug this repeating offer didn't happen before 1.75 but should be there now.
The blue disks have a live-time of a few minutes, but launching alone forwards your clock by 10 minutes. And fast-docking forwards it even by 20 minutes. So on launch, normal wormholes will long be gone.
You can buy a wormhole scanner. That way you know were the hole leads to and if it is worth to enter it.

Trumbles are not a one time offer - just make sure you know how to get rid of them once you've said yes.
Blue circles are the entrance to a newly created Wormhole of a jumped out ship - if you fly through it before it disappears you'll end up where that ship was going without using any fuel - although, without the analyser you won't know where you're going (until you arrive)

Just an update: installed BGS & pretty planets (cant remember exact name) and wow it looks loads better.
Is there an oxp to improve the docking/hyperspace jump animation? I know Im being really picky, but everything looks great until then.
Now I understand the wormhole i'd better save some cash for a scanner!
Thanks for all your help lads

Re: docking/hyperspace animation - there's a way to change the .dat file that creates the effect but my search foo has let me down and I cannot locate the thread - if I do, I'll post it here...

altering .dat files is far beyond my capacity!
ce la vie I can live with the hyperspace anim.
Did someone mention fast docking?? Although I enjoy the arse clenching terror of docking myself, sometimes I have to use the docking computer (caffine fix for example) is there a way to speed up the process?

Shift+C will give you instant docking, as long as the station is targeted.
