Some useful suggestions about "Eyecandy" - maybe?

I have just a few oxp-s installed. But I was thinking about a change here.

At first I would like to have some useful hints how to make things look more interesting or/and beautiful.
Well, Oolite looks rather good already clean installed, but I know that people have worked hard to improve it.
And I want to know more about that.

I have seen pictures from docked ships that looks rather advanced. Or maybe I have misunderstood something as it looked very different.
Then the planets' "texture".
And ships, of course.

And there are probably other things. For example: what the heck is "Snoopers"?

Here are my oxp-s:

Some have more than 100 oxp-s installed. I have 14!

Well - quality is usually better than quantity (is that true for money - as well? A sort of philosophical question, maybe).
But...

These docked screens from [wiki]BGS[/wiki] oxp are maybe what you mean... they are very cool.
If I count all the Griff oxps as one, I only have 18 oxps installed.

Griff's ships set: Great ships
Griff's Rock Hermit: Great rock hermit
System Redux / System Demux / Deep Horizon - Systems: Planet textures (These are not compatible - Choose ONE only)

And a shameless self-promotion...
Deep Horizon - Navigation Buoy

Try those out and see how your Ooniverse looks.

Asteroid Storm or Zygoroids for different asteroids is no bad choice too .-)

Snoopers as an OXP is both a mechanism and a bit of fun...

The bit of fun is that occasionally when you dock you'll get a little news snippet - it could be about a war on a distant system, some zero-G hockey scores, a breaking story about a politician, a review of a restaurant... (mostly by me but all the excellent Tionisla Chronicle's articles by Drew)

All set in Disembodied and Svengali's beautiful backdrops.

The mechanism is that Snoopers allow other OXPs to utilise the Snoopers message display system so the OXP writer does not have to do this bit themselves...

I love YAH for lots of reasons - 1) The Constores are amazing, 2) There's 350+ adverts to look at (10% of them by me!) 3) because of the way I play - I need somewhere else other than main stations to dock at! 3) The ads are clever/inspired/humorous...

Thanks! A lot of (hopefully) useful suggestions.

Guess I have to look around a little and make some testing. :)

What's the story with them being 15 pixels off-centre? I have found that trimming 15px from one side and adding 15px to the other side greatly improves several of the BGS images. Am I really the first person to notice this? Or is it a problem specific to my display? (1920 x 1200 on Win7)

+10 this. YAH are a great piece of eye candy, and you can pick up some bargains from time to time too!

While we're all plugging our stuff, if you don't run shaders Accessories and Smivs'Shipset will pretty-up all the ships and other objects.

After taking a look in the screenshot topic I've noticed your post -> https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f= ... start=2557
The overlays are missing...? Have you deleted them?

Yes, that was deliberate on my part. I removed the overlays to get a better look and confirm my belief the image was off-centre. I liked it much better without the overlays and never put them back. That screenshot is a good example; compare the left hand edge of the background image and text column versus those on the right side. Removing 15px from the left and adding it to the right would centre that background properly. It did occur to me that perhaps they are slightly off-centre to allow room for the overlaid text on the left, but if so I think it was a bad choice. So, is that what they look like on other people's computers? Or is it just mine?

They are a nice set of images though, apart from the overlays and the spammy intro screen, I've kept them all.

You are modifying a OXP, then complaining about the OXP, because your modification does not match your expectations? Hmm. Funny.

Maybe you wanted to say that it's not flexible enough for your personal taste, and yes, it's not flexible and it was never intended to be flexible. But this is just my interpretation of your posts and it would have been a lot better to be more specific to avoid this guesswork.

Oh, before I forget - your assumption is right. It is done this way to combine the background pics with the overlays. Place on screens is limited so moving the background pics to the right was for me the only option. I've talked a while ago with Tokus*Maximus about his icons. They would have improved the overlays a lot, but he wanted to wait for a HD version. As this is not on my list any time soon I'm awaiting your suggestions for better overlays.

You mean before you forget again. Since you could have just said that yesterday.
