Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?

Is your Ooniverse a Jameson-friendly paradise with little to no piracy, or harder the the hardest version of ToughGuys? Or do you have a horde of Griff Kraits waiting every time you launch via script?

You've forgotten one or two options here:
"I'm straight up Strict Mode, no OXPs at all"
and
"I've made the place look pretty, but the difficulty hasn't changed."
I'd be the latter of those two. :p
EDIT: My bad, you did include a "No OXPs that change the difficulty" option. Still, it'd be good to differentiate between pure Strict Mode and eye-candy OXPs.

Ok, I'll make the changes.

I'm trying to get my skills and equipment so honed and refined, that I can take on a horde of Thargoids singlehandedly and WIN. Then I'll up the difficulty level. I just have to finish making my dream ship.

Had a Tiger before and suddenly there were Tigers everywhere shooting at me.
And also when I just had left the station they jumped at me.
It was rather stimulating at first, but after a while I started to long for the rather harmonious universe I once lived in.
Even if I at that point in time didn't see it that way.
So, I went back to my Boa Clipper and took away the tiger.oxp .
And everything was normal again.
Think that if I had more ships installed there would probably not had been that many Tigers.
And a Tiger - isn't that a rather rare ship? I mean - it is rather expensive and according to the specifications there were not many constructed.
But when I had it I experienced it as one of the universe's most common ship.
But if one has more ships then I think that everything changes according to the programming of the ships.
And I like things a little more - well - let's say calm.

My Oolite universe is sneaky...it's only slightly harder normally than plain Oolite with no OXPs. But sometimes you run across a combined group of pirates that have been "pulled together" by fighting a trader that was initially between them. By the time you arrive, the trader's dead...and you have potentially 10+ pirates attack you at once -- enough of which are fast enough and have injectors that even fleeing isn't easy.
In another way, my Oolite universe can be slightly easier -- I tweaked NPC ships so they don't fire all their missiles at once. While this means you can't normally ECM once and destroy them all, it also means they WON'T fire multiple ECM-resistant missiles at once from close range. In original Oolite, your chance of surviving (if your ECM didn't get them) is nearly zero if more than 1 missile hits in quick succession head-on.
My hacked Deep Space Pirates OXP produces fewer pirates per encounter than the original...but possibly MORE in Anarchy systems or if a Pirate Cove is nearby.
I am also working on trader ships AI.plist logic so they can sometimes come to the player's aid...or each other's. I'm undecided on how rarely this happens -- like one trader out of 10 should do this? More traders are likely to be cowards than brave...

I've got Pirate Coves and DS Pirates installed to make Pirate encounters that bit more frequent overall. Galactic Navy with it's rogue frigates has been removed as has been identified as the main culprit for slowing my computer down to a crawl in systems where there is a GN fleet (it's the Mine Sweepers shipscript that kills my framerate). Moderately difficult Random Hits are normally a challenge. Thargoid Wars makes for some interesting encounters.
Still flying a Cobra and happy with the balance - if I ever upgrade to a Caddy/Vortex or similar then the NPC's will get shields and Tough Guys will be introduced.

As close to 'Elite in my 10 year old imagination' as I can get it.
Cheers,
Drew.

Have you tried turning Wireframe Graphics on yet?

When I actually take a break from making OXPs and play, it's a ToughGuys Armageddon Ooniverse that looks very pretty (System Redux, Accessories, Smivs'Shipset plus a handful of OXP ships).

I'd rather not thanks....
..... 90% of the time I get full frame rate with full shaders, no reduced detail etc, it's just certain OXP's max out my CPU sometimes and hence impact on frame rate. GN is the worst because it's ships make multiple calls to a script every few seconds.

So far it seems that the results on this poll are quite varied.
My Ooniverse has the first level of ThoughGuys installed, and several dangerous ships. I have the GalNavy OXP installed, so those rouge frigates are annoying. Also, the new Thargoids from that OXP are powerful indeed. I need a Constrictor to be the top dog here! You need to be dangerous to survive in my Ooniverse.

Any other colours bother you?

"My Ooniverse has NO- I repeat, NO- piracy. I have hacked the system to remove pirates."
That would be my choice, if only I knew how. As is, I had to go with option 3: make it prettier, not more dangerous.

Copy the games' main shipdata.plist, and go through the copy with a text editor (NOT notepad). For every ship entry you will see a line that says "roles = ******;". Some will have several roles. Each time you see 'pirate' as a role, delete it or replace it with one of the other roles, such as 'hunter' or 'trader'. Put the new shipdata.plist in AddOns and, Lo, no more pirates. Anywhere, ever.
