Here's Peek of the Week no.7. (Think I've missed no.6).

I had missed it. Here's no.6 and its a goody!
Here we have a paintover of a screenshot of a damaged cargo canister. Paintovers are used to develop and improve blockouts or WIP in game assets. Happy Halloween!

So what is the oolite devide in allegiances?
[Empire/Independent/Alliance/Federation]
More leaning towards independent than on the FDF or about the same?

Hadn't thought about it until now.. but as an anarchist, guess I'd have to go with independent.

Big news:
Michael Brookes wrote:I know there's been some discussion about the machine specs needed for the alpha test, as we're approaching the first build delivery I can share some of the development specs of where we are at the moment. Optimisation and performance are obviously ongoing tasks and as more features are added through the alpha and beta periods we'll need to keep revisiting it.
To play the first build released in December we're currently looking at the following:
- Direct X 11
- Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum)
- 2 GB System Ram (more is always better)
- DX 10 hardware GPU (my reasonably low end machine has a GTX 285 with 2GB)
As I say we're looking to try and reduce the spec if possible through detail options and optimisations, so the final min spec for the game should be lower than that stated above, but for the initial alpha tests you'll need to be in that range.
Michael
My specs are as follows:
- Direct X 11
- Core i7 -
8 cores no, 4 cores @ 2.2 Ghz 64bit CPU
- 8 Gb RAM
- Nvidia GT 635M GPU
So I think I got enough. The only weak spot is my GPU but I think its enough.
Not enough. The GT 635M is very slow compared to Michael's GTX 285.

Whoa!
Guite hefty specs wanted. Well, that's Alpha test, more or less it was expected. Funny that it needs only 2 GB RAM...
I'm glad I "went crazy" and ordered parts for a new PC, waiting for the last bits to arrive.
Funny thing is that I read this news on Oolite BB first
- my habit is to check here first before checking Frontier Forums
.

Order of the day: boot machine, admire
APOD, check mail, check Oolite forum - only then wherever else.

I'm not planning to do any multi player stuff, but I wish you luck!
I'm instead going for total domination of my single player universe.

Aww
Oh well, I'm still hopeful that multiplayer won't be awfull.
Fear that my AI-honed combat skills won't live up to be as effective vs humans though!
Not planning on anything guild-like, simply don't have the time, but I WILL be trying my best to subvert Braben's vision of a Frontier universe.
Still, as I understand the concept, players will spawn instances single or in a group,
downloading latest update of changes to the shared universe and also uploading player efforts that impact on events. trade balances, missions achieved etc
So, even a single player game should have a small (+1) influence on the universe.
Even if the single player will not receive in-game comms from other players or meet them in combat.
Don't know if the evolving universe will be possible to switch off... seems a bit of a waste to do so though.

I'll almost certainly be playing solo-online - but I think you can switch between various modes (All, Groups, Solo etc).
You'd choose which mode at session start-up, as I understand it (I could be wrong) - but little is set in stone yet.
Fiendish plan, McLane - I'll wave as our single-player universes pass in the night.

I had hoped my so calling "gaming laptop" from 2 years ago would be up to the task of running ED at even "low settings".
Here's my basic 3DMark Fire Strike test result (907).
Now I'm not even sure it will run the optimised release version of ED.
To say I'm disappointed is nowhere near the truth. I've been looking forward to this game for over a year, and hoped for it for over 20 years since FE2. I'm gutted.
Theres no hope for me to even upgrade my laptop, let alone buying a new computer.
I want to cry right now.
