It must get backed up. When the new server came in I think there was only about an hour's worth of changes that got lost.

Hi Jazhaz.

While updating the manual for my upcoming Famous Planets v2.5. release I realized that the following OXP is either not on the Wiki or the link to the page is lost. Also it does not appear in the table.

I've got an idea for the size comparison of ships. If you want to make a Jeff Russel-like illustration you can import your ships in Wings in one model file and then position them above each other. And then view them from the x as direction with orthographic view.

I've done that with my cruisers:
Like this:

Image

Ships in sequence Orisis (1.2 km length)
Tigershark carrier (not yet released) (2,2 km length)
Auroa (4,3 km in length)

Maybe for like the top ten biggest ships and the standard oolite ships we could do a picture, but not all ships lol, last i checked there were about 270 ships listed

Then I really want to know how long a generation ship is. My guess is about 7,7 km

I'll have another go at merging all the subentities of that ship into one model so I can find out the exact size.

oh friggen crap!

6412.532 x 6416.008 x 30276.727

its 30 kilometers long...

I mean really... 30... kilometers... long.

They might as well of put thrusters on thier planet instead. What would a planet look like after being stipped of enough materials to make several 30 km long ships?

I just recently started playing around with a trunk version of oolite, and as a consequence had to dump a couple of incompatible OXPs: UPS Courier and Drones, to be precise; not sure how many others are truly incompatible, but at least those two check in their requires.plist. And I remembered there was a new version of Snoopers for 1.74, so I figured it was time for an overall refresh of my OXP set.

So I went browsing in the newly-refurbished OXP wiki pages. I have to say, great work to JazHaz, ADCK, and anybody else who has contributed. Given how the OXP ooniverse has blossomed, it was well time to make its home more manageable. And you guys didn't just split them up, you updated, corrected, and added to them. Mark down at least one delighted user!

The most enjoyable moment of my Big Browse came when I was reading the description of the new Nuit station: "Isis Interstellar bought out the galaxy-renowned Faukenhewj Shipyards". After I sounded it out, I laughed. Out loud. Long and hard. I didn't just "Internet LOL", I actually barked out a series of guffaws in my lonely room. The cats figured I had gone mental. Okay okay, the cats know I'm mental, but this time they actually took cover. Thanks, KillerWolf, for the best laugh I'd had all week!

BTW, I've tweaked the Nuit OXP a bit, so that:
  • It now unpacks into its own directory,
  • It no longer appears every time you undock,
  • It now appears with the station scan class instead of ship, and
  • It's now the main station of certain systems.
Now I have something to look forward to in some high-tech systems instead of just another torus! I assume KW is going to make his own changes, so I won't distribute my tweaked version. But I'd be happy to discuss the changes.

Kudos to all you wiki editors and OXP authors for making this game so much more than it started out to be.

SPOILER WARNING (may reveal facts about the generation ship)

I've made a beginning with a Jeff Russel-like comparison in size. It doesn't make sense but I find it fun doing it. I used the Grid in Photoshop to make it on scale. The tiny tower on the left is actually the Burj Dubai. The current highest skyscraper on earth for size comparison.

Far from complete. For example the communist stations are also quite big. I think the GRS is also very big but no size data.
I posted a URL link because it's a very big picture.

Taking this picture or concept and editing it further to be more accurate is no problem with me. I just had fun doing it.

You have the “Black Monk Monastry” [sic, should be Monastery] caption twice.

@ADCK I could use some good views of your Behemoths as you can see.

Looks fine so far, but why the separate mentioning of Griff's and Deepspace's Anaconda?
