ADCK, this ship is both awesome and beautiful, but I notice that although you previously described it as a Yacht it's now called 'Battleship'. To me it just screams luxury liner...would you like a Liner version, or is it definitely a Battleship now?

Hi Smivs,
I noticed that to. I think ADCK wants to use it as a battleship but I think it can be both. a sort of multi purpose hull. Btw i pm you the link of my texture. You can use bits out of it if you want.

Correct, in Amen Bricks megaships theres a ship called the Amen Class Yacht, the battleship is based alot on this ship, except i've turned it around (it always looked like it was flying backwards to me) and reduced the poly count alot as there was alot of polygons that just weren't needed, plus there was some geometrical oddities like faces that cut through each other and were flipped etc. then i removed the fins that were on the back (or front in Amens) cause they looked weird, and added some detail like windows and an indent where the engines are, flattened the upper deck, added a bridge-like area, and scaled the whole thing to be about three times bigger.
I called it a battleship as I plan on using in in an update to my behemoths OXP as a battleship, there'll be a bunch of turrets on the front-deck and possibly wings. It will have the same role as a frigate only a much smaller chance of appearing.

OK, Battleship it is then. I might be a few days as I'm in the middle of testing my new OXP trying to get it ready for release sometime next week I hope!
The work I have done on your ship so far has been with Yacht/Liner in mind which is not really battleship stuff.
I know PAGroove has more or less finished his, so don't wait for me if you need it urgently.
The Liner version does look quite nice...I'll post a screenshot later...and if it's useful to you you're welcome to use it. However if it's no use to you, could I use your model if I think it's worth releasing sometime in the future as a one-off eye-candy OXP?

As I said earlier, do what you want with it, I'd be happy to see you release it.
It's going to be a while before I release the next updates to Bulk Haulers/ ADCK's Behemoths anyway, probably longer than 2 weeks.

Many thanks. This is the Liner (as far as I got with it). Let me know if it might be any use to you and if so I can develop it further.
As I mentioned above, I will try to Battleship-ify it soon, when my current project is ready for release, which should be next week.

Me too, you should definatly release that, just remember to make it use BigShips OXP or it'll try to dock, and there's no way it'll fit
Also, try setting it to 'smooth' on the plist and see what that looks like, I havn't tested it too see what it looks like yet.

Just one tiny thing. Just rescale the windows that they are a little bit smaller. For comparison look at my Orisis which is in lenght 1.2. km. but far higher than this ship.
Just a little bit smaller windows (not to much)

What do you mean, it won't fit? OK, it's a bit snug, but those Coriolis stations are quite stretchy

And there we go again, same way I did with the Condors way back ...

Maybe we should really chance Oolite that such ships never are allowed to dock in the first place. I wrote a dimension check in my Oolite copy that compares the ships x/y dimension with that of the dock. When to big it generates the message: "TO_BIG_TO_DOCK". Than the dockingAI puts the ship in STATIONKEEPING:
Code: Select all
[ai.takeAction] AI.m:466: Behemoth - Thea 204 to take action requestDockingCoordinates
[ai.takeAction] AI.m:466: Behemoth - Thea 204 to take action setStateTo: AWAIT_COORDS
[ai.message.receive] AI.m:408: AI dockingAI.plist for Behemoth - Thea 204 in state 'AWAIT_COORDS' receives message 'TO_BIG_TO_DOCK'
[ai.takeAction] AI.m:466: Behemoth - Thea 204 to take action setStateTo: STATIONKEEPING
And it was working for a behemoth using a dockingAI.plist. However, currently I see no better solution than just put such ships on hold. (And this code will not make it in 1.74.0).
