The Sirens of Titan, by Kurt Vonnegut. Which character in which book is accompanied by Ergates the talking ant?

Shouldn't we let the asker decide if the answer is correct or not before proceeding with the next question?

That might be more polite ... but when I know I'm right, I know I'm right! :D

Damn it, I know the book but I can’t remember the character.
To Google it would be like hacking my savegame… just not cricket, Brockian Ultra or otherwise, old bean.

Well, flying a ship called the Clear Air Turbulence there's a good chance you would know ... kudos for fighting the Google temptation! :)

Heh - I know the author, but can't recall the book nor the character. He's a countryman of mine too, so I should be ashamed! ;-)

I only know it because it was the tag that my mate used to introduce me to the author's work. "One of the only grown up books I've ever read with a talking ant in it."

Ooh, I just remembered the book!! Still no idea about the character though...

Ok, now we look for something a middle aged human will turn into after eating the root of a certain tree.

In the same universe there lives (among others) hoofed creatures with two heads that looks like socks on hands and fierce cat-like creatures.

Ok that's the Kzin Universe, (Larry Niven?) but I have no idea of the answer to the actual question.

The animated Star Trek series had a episode that was taken from a short story in that Universe

Hmmm, don't recall the exact name, but he evolves into a superior race, esp. intellectually, the same race that built the ringworld. Also physically much stronger than normal humans.

Rxke is close enough with that description of Pak Protectors.
