I do remember just barely touching upon quaternions when we had an introduction to fluid dynamics at the academy (We were told it exists, but you don't need or want to know), but this is way above my head now, so the bb it is then. Glad that has been decided.

I had to deal with them briefly when trying to calculate missile flight dynamics - I'm guessing at the same place...

Actually no. This was in Norway when I did my bachelor equivalent. At Shrivenham we were nowhere near mathematics/physics at this level. I did have a college who did a Master within modelling and simulation, and he complained a lot.
