<Absolutely naive, or thoroughly optimistic, or alienated, or sarcastic post - heck, I might even mean it!>
We don't have a established ruling on netiquette because that's not friendly - instead of imposing rules. we rather trust others to know how to behave on such a friendly board, or teach them by good example!

From my part, I have to say that I love this OXP! It really does a good job of finding balance between all the ships.
However, I do end up removing the uber-ships from my version (meaning those small non-freighters that cost more than a million to buy), because I just see them as unbalancing as hell and the price alone is not something that can balance it.
However, I also noticed that I had under-estimated the power of the ships that are my own design... I had priced them quite a bit higher than this OXP does (in most cases)...

Hi!
@Cmdr. Maegil:

Yeah, as long as this works by itself, its the better solution also imho ... but getting bullied around or people at least attempting that is even less friendly.
Sadly, not everyone knows how to behave here on their own. But `nuff said.
@Wolfwood:

Thanks!
However, I do end up removing the uber-ships from my version (meaning those small non-freighters that cost more than a million to buy)
Then, by all means, do that! I wrote a How-To (which you obviously won`t need) for players who want certain ships taken out of their game. So everyone can tweak for their tastes.
... I just see them as unbalancing as hell and the price alone is not something that can balance it.
The price alone also isn`t it ... you can meet them as pirates or police now, too. If you are being followed by a Condor or Pallas instead of a Viper or Krait makes a noticable difference into the balance, if you do or don`t own one of those high-end ships yourself.
But, if you want it otherwise, tweak it!
However, I also noticed that I had under-estimated the power of the ships that are my own design... I had priced them quite a bit higher than this OXP does (in most cases)...
I tried to be as impartial as possible by the strict application of a formula that`s explained in detail in the Read Me. This is what makes the prices and ships comparable to each other.
I seem to recall that your ships definitely pack more punch than the standard Cobra MkIII, but are not as far-out as, for example, the Fer-de-Lance NG or the (civilian) Imperial Courier.
As said, I attempted to keep the balance by assigning all ships new roles - not only new prices.
So there are at least three variants of choice concerning what to do with the Realistic Shipyards: Don`t download them, download them and use them as they are or download them and tweak them to your taste and/or your personal version of Oolite.

I think we have a netiquette and there is no 'free speech' (and I don't think that it would be good to have it). It is a moderated board and the mods have the right to change, cut or even to disable user rights. But that kind of discussion becomes somewhat annoying, thousands of other boards have discussed this aspect before - with no result in most cases.
So just let it be the friendliest board. We are a community and we should behave like it. All members should think a little bit about their posts - before dropping it in.
And I think Lestradae's work has (like all other's work) some weak points. But that's quite normal. So feel welcome Lestradae - and continue your work.
The same for all other members - feel welcome and give other members the feeling to be welcome. In most cases if there is a problem a pm will solve this problem better than to put it in the public area.
@Commander McLane: Remember - we had a not optimal start too. But after my apologize (I was somewhat stupido) it has changed to - respect and help and enjoying the others work.
We are all not perfect.:-)

I second that.

Exactly. But that`s no excuse for trolling!

I second that also.

That`s a good idea!
respect and help and enjoying the others work
That would be the constructive solution, I agree.
Yep.
Thanks for your input

Lestradae,
I like your work. I was only looking to exclude a ship or two but that doesn't mean that I don't like it. So keep up the good work. I think that the realstic pricing system is a good thing.
On other ships in Oolite:
I'm not in the Very Strict camp as I want to see Oolite developing further. However I don't like ships from other universes either. But thats a personal thing.

Hi pagroove,

Then I`m happy that it enhances your game!
On other ships in Oolite:
I'm not in the Very Strict camp as I want to see Oolite developing further.
I see it the same way. And for the Strict camp there is always the strict mode or simply not installing OXPs that aren`t "strict".
So, I don`t see where the problem might be.
However I don't like ships from other universes either. But thats a personal thing.
I did include a How-To (which should be understandable even for newbies, you probably also won`t need it) for the removal of personally unwanted ships at the end of page 5 of the Realistic Shipyards thread to that very purpose, so that everyone can tweak to their tastes.
In combination with the Ship Stats Data Bank that comes with the OXP (and shows all playable ship`s stats) this should enable to find if and in case, which ships one wants to remove from the game.
Have fun!

Is this oxp in some way responsible for adding all the irritating boy racers that proceed to attack your spaceship as you emerge from the station and attempt to enter witch-space, whilst
insulting you...??
They are
really starting to annoy me...

Moving the suggestion to its proper thread:

L, you might even consider nicking that ship and C&P the Hognose stuff on it - it seems a shame for such a beautiful model to be in service of just one company.

EDIT: Wait a moment ... did you say station? They are not supposed to hang around at stations ... you sure you don`t mean the Tiger Gang? The boyracers should appear between planet and Witchpoint on the space lane ... anyways, read below how to get rid of the boyracers.
Erm ... perhaps it`s time for me to re-post the How-To get rid of unwanted ships:
1. You make a list of the in-game names of the ships you want to remove from the game.
2. You open the Realistic Shipyard`s shipdata.plist and search via search function after those names.
3. At each name, you write down the plist name: It´s at the beginning of each shipdata & shipyard.plist entry and says "<key>shipname</key>". Write down those plist names also.
4. Delete the entries of the ships you don`t want in the shipdata.plist. Keep in mind that many ships have different versions, some player and some NPC, and if you want them completely gone, you have to take all of them out. You should already have found them all in step 2. Don`t forget to erase their subentities, too!
5. After editing (and saving) the shipdata.plist, open the shipyard.plist.
6. Search for the plist names of the player versions of the ships you want to remove (you won`t find their in-game names here).
7. Remove the entries corresponding to the ships you don`t want.
8. Save your new shipyard.plist.
9. Next time you start the game, remember to press SHIFT while starting so that the game recognises the changes you have made. After that, at every game start you have the oxp without the ships you don`t want.
The boyracers are from an oxp of the same name and are
meant to be annoying
But if you don`t like them, use the above - and all the boyracers vanish from the Ooniverse, never to be seen again.
@Cmdr. Maegil & Svengali:
Nice pics, looking cool!
Are you entirely sure you moved them to their proper thread? I mean, they can definitely stay, looking nice and all, just wondering
Cheers

Ah, now I found out why it`s in
this thread here! As I have said repeatedly, I must be blind somewhat
It might seem impossible to consider, but the "tugs.oxp" is not part of Realistic Shipyards because there are no player ships in there and I didn`t figure out what could be interesting for a player in flying a tugger.
But, if the GRS decided to create player ships, I mean, rent contracts for the replacing of buoys in dangerous systems as missions to adventurous Commanders, that might be a good idea! (And I would have suggestions for the pricing and TL-ing - if they are wanted)
Cheers

Currently we don't have any plans to grow to a mega-company, so no other designs in the next time (I think Eric will give his UPS some new stuff and my Hyperradio and Localhero are in big need of an overhaul). And we don't have any plans to make this ship available as player-ship, because it is very slow, with a absolutely bad pitch and roll and I have moved the middle-point of the ship to get a better rotation with an attached buoy. So I think it is no good idea to use it as player-ship.
But this may change...

The expression "Deader than a Hognose jumped by Thargoids" comes to mind...
Sorry, I never meant to say it should be a player ship, I just thought you might had added the tugs to your OXP...

:-) No, we don't have included the tugs. I think it is already used in Anarchies.oxp. Eric just has asked for the permission to use the tugline. So we have used these specific models. I really like Murghs idea and Eric was clever enough to see that this will improve our own thing.:-)
