In a sense this is what we now have. Oolite 2 as a project was abandoned some time ago as the whole thing just got out of hand with some crazy 'wish lists' constantly distracting from the main discussion. However the main thrust of Oolite 2 was the change to Griff ships, and this has now been done, and many of the other proposed features are now in the game or in the pipeline, so in all but name what we have now is Oolite 2.Diziet Sma wrote:Jason S wrote:I hope the community makes an Oolite2 with better graphics as that could be an alternative.
This is a valid concern. Hope it doesn't happen.Disembodied wrote:Although there's always the risk that, if Oolite came to be seen as an alternative, as opposed to a homage to the original (and to some extents an advert for E:D), then FD might be tempted to bring the hammer down on it.

'Yeah I will' he replied

'no you won't, they have removed offline mode'
-
'well that sucks, they have lost a customer then, looks like I will need to go to the library next week and ask FD for a refund'
-
'Yeah, at least it was only a pre-order so shouldn't be a problem'
-
'Ah well, at least I can carry on playing Oolite'
<chortles - hugs NAS> Highly unlikely, but if it ever happened, I'd get myself banned from the FD forum in pretty short order!Zieman wrote:Going to stash all Oolite-related stuff in several places for safekeeping now...
It's worth remembering here that despite the similarities in genre and gameplay there's virtually nothing concrete in Oolite which is actually a copy of Elite. There are some text strings which have identical values to corresponding strings in Elite - "Viper" or "Reorte" for instance - but those could be replaced without affecting gameplay if they were considered significant enough to be infringing.Disembodied wrote:Although there's always the risk that, if Oolite came to be seen as an alternative, as opposed to a homage to the original (and to some extents an advert for E:D), then FD might be tempted to bring the hammer down on it.

From the very beginning , I questioned Ed and M brookes directly about off line. The reply was that "yes there would be off line ,but 'for now 'we' are concentrating 'on On line".

.......back to oolite, and frontier on my dads old amiga...

Time for re-branding. Oolite should become Oolite: Harmless.Disembodied wrote:Although there's always the risk that, if Oolite came to be seen as an alternative, as opposed to a homage to the original (and to some extents an advert for E:D), then FD might be tempted to bring the hammer down on it.
