Superb tutorial that Commander, well done.

Now just need to web-trawl something to help with GIMP layers and it'll be time for a play. Or may just experiment and see what I can break...

Here's a basic one covering layer skills.

Which is what I did :)

Coriolis Tweaks....

My default coriolis skin gets a tweak - considering comments about the big circle looking a bit plain. I've added some lines, and eight wee light thingies. For the off-front sides, there is a boxy construct where the dock would otherwise be.

However - I think I should have drawn a lip around the dock.

An evil idea...

The galcops look good in the game:

And an evil idea came to me... what if I took the iguana spikes and...

Viper Vigilante with Fangs...

I've set it to role hunter - so I think I'll stay clean thanks.

(Hey... this is a "must have" addition to Random Hits I think?!)

Cow slaughtering viper looks goooood. Reminds me of a delta winged jet fighter like Mirages etc.

@Simon B - Coriolis is looking much better!

I like the Viper Vigilante concept a lot - could I suggest that the tips of the iguana spikes have a dull red glow - so that you know what you're getting into as you approach...

Dual-magenta lasersbeams is not enough of a hint then?

I remind the worthy hoggy that iguana spikes are guns. After they've fired for a bit, they heat up and glow red.

I'm going to have to script some decent behavior for this thing.

He's gonna try to avoid shooting cops, more likely to have exotic weapons, etc. and a nice line in hard boiled dialog. Well - monolog.

"You broke the law bub, now you pay."
"I am the law."

-----------------------

Similar for the renegade - there seems to have been much potential missed from the oxp as it stands. I picture the renegade as a captured or otherwise appropriated viper - intact. - by anarchists to hoon around in. They tool around the galaxy at full speed, lights on all the time, enlightening the ether with such wisdom as "look out, it's the pigs" and "nee now nee now nee now". These guys are likely to use ecm and hacking attacks to sew confusion ... but there are the inevitable black hats.

... well OK - though the delta-wing look is more gecko-sidewinder-shuttle. The meanness is there though. I was thinking in terms of a tank crossed with a concorde sst (oh, another delta wing...) and designed by lambourgini.

Stick some MATRA Super 530 on underwing pylons of that 2000 and they would be much more similar.

It's not perfect silhouette match, more the feel of that underwing threat...

I've finally got a decent shot of a non-dock side of the coriolis.

Have a look at this then.

I should probably put these things into a temporary oxp for people to play with.

More doodling ... I'm following the craft listed in Random Hits - since I likes that oxp.

Image
... compare with the asp mkII from before. This is actually the model from an early version. I figure the asp comes in different model/years.

Image
... this one took a while, but I wanted to show that even complex models like the cobra mk III can be modded still. The trick is to gut the cm3 model.

... cargopods in space ... anyone trying out the neolite oxp will have seen this by now.

But ... remember I was going to put turrets on an anaconda?
Image

... the proposed neolite-frontiers oxp is to have variations on the bigger ships, allowing them to cope with the more outlying sectors of any galaxy.

How many turrets should an anaconda have?
Would people with turret experience please advise on anything I'm likely to get wrong?

I am using griffs spacebar turrets as a guide - so far.

Beautiful work on those ships Simon, the coppery textures & lighting on the cargo pods is lovely too!
