Greetings, dwellers of the eight galaxies!

I am an old git who first played elite on a friends acorn electron. I was hooked so I went straight to the computer shop and bought my very own acorn electron just to run elite on it.

I also played some of the successors to the game including the one with the Newtonian game play.....

Glad the game is in good hands as it deserves.

Awesome, Ian and Dave should be proud.

Greetings,

Davin from the States here. Oolite is my first experience with Elite and I'm having a blast with it. I came across it by accident a week or two ago while I was looking for space sims to occupy my downtime while I'm away from home. I played with the keyboard for a couple days, but got tired of that and picked up an extreme3dpro joystick to get the immersion factor. It's wonderful that I can run it on my Windows 10 desktop at home, and my old Laptop running linux when I'm on the go. This is more than likely the best free game out there! The OXPs are a little mind-boggling, so I've held off on getting any of those at the moment but hopefully I'll find a few that I like and give it a go.

Safe flying!

Davin

Very sensible - [EliteWiki] Random Ship Names is highly recommended.

Good day!
I started playing Elite in the year 1986.
I developed my own Elite-like game 6 years later with module-like ships you could construct and build yourself in Shipyards.
I also added a political career section of the game where you could become president, Supremeleader or King of a country, planet or entire system.
I also included the idea of setting up factories, stores (inside space stations) and even farms on planets and slave mining facilities.
This was around 1994.
Later I gave massive input to Dave Braben and elite IV when it was yet not thought of to be published at all. I am happy that many of my ideas are coming alive now.
I would like to give you some input on the Oolite here because I think it has the potential to become the greatest game of all times - if you don't need the best graphics.

Greetings from a 78 year old Oolite newb. Finally got round to make my first post having lurked, read and re-read the OXP's and game details and viewed some of the U-tube vids. I've also progressed a little in the game with my Cobra Mklll (the 'Sir John') and have survived/come-to-grief against a few pirates. I'm now making a little money, upgrading etc. and feeling a little more game confident.

I too came from a Spectrum and Amiga Elite background and IMO 'Frontier' was quite good - considering most of the other stuff at that time was rubbish. You know, games as unique as Elite stay with you for years and that's why we still remember, speak of and emulate it so much. I must admit that I would like to try Elite Dangerous but that needs some serious hardware. So, I will plod on with my humble laptop with Oolite and thank all of you who have come together with such incredible expertise, to allow me the chance to play the game again.

Regards, John

Hello!
Glad to be here; and glad to have found this remarkable game.

Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Tog; currently commanding the Yazen-N armed (and ridiculously so) trader Halitosis, currently in service to the Margravine of Aronar.
I've a few questions, but those will come a little later. For now, I'd just like to offer my appreciation for a great game and I hope to enjoy my stay here. :)

Must go; I need to be seen in court...the Margrave might just be getting a little suspicious about his wife's activities...and why Halitosis seems to depart for unspecified reasons...and where that shipment of precious stones disappeared...(whistles innocently)

(In my best Harry Mudd voice) ...And thereby hangs a tale. ;)

Actually, I see there is a 'fiction' board here, and since I write story posts at the drop of a hat I think I'll just mosey on down there...
:D

Hello everybody! My name is Captain Obvious. DUH! :P

This is quite interesting as I've never programmed in Objective C before and as a hacker, I seem to end up getting involved in the code of a game I play. Also, how do you get an account on the wiki? Thanks!
