I guess you're doomed to keep the chalice until the end of time :-D
That's what you get for changing the subject line of the post from the thread name, that is, the random thought of the original author, to a random thought of yours

Ohh, now there's another nirk...
You just make them up on the fly, don't you?

Does anyone know why the Expansion Manager reports that the expansion list is several zeptobytes long, instead of 700-odd kb?
Version? I think that is fixed in 1.91.
Fankle is a messy situation/ solution. Didn't know it wasn't proper Inglish.
Nirk is from 'Porridge'.

My installer says version 1.90 in it's title. Is the version in the game anywhere? Surely it should be on the splash screen?
I hadn't noticed advert of a new version. I shall download shortly.

Sorry, am I on stage for the next round of questions?
Not been too good for a while, so I'll dig into my notes.

It seems that I got awarded the Chalice of Inquisitorial hats, or something, while I was away.

A scene that has left lasting impressions in SF is the (entirely unrealistic, if not impossible) Star Wars scene of the Millifalcon Ennium Enema hiding in a passage in a cavernous asteroid. So, taking that one off the table, can we have FIVE examples of caves/ cave systems in SF.

There's one example I'm thinking of which I'll let squeeze into the SF category because it had lots of whizz-bang space in it's plot, and some particularly wobbly sets, but normally you wouldn't class this film series as being "SF".
Mmmmm, actually, on consideration .. it's not primarily SF, but there is a lot of SFery in it. Well, an MBP if anyone gets that one.

Since I was thinking of the Colossal Cave, which had a special word "PLUGH" for teleporting into it's depths, MBPs for any special sound effects associated with your cave.

Over to you. Let the spelunking commence.

Moonraker.

In the upper reaches of the not-Amazon, Bond sees a beautiful woman foraging in the rainforest, follows her back to a cave entrance hidden behind a waterfall, enters to discover Drax's villain lair, complete with "You Only Live Twice"/Gerry Anderson style underground rocket launchery hidden in the massive, underground CAVE system. See also: You Only Live Twice, The Man With the Golden Gun, Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, Thunderbirds, UFO, etc.

How about the hidden cave system underneath the city of Threerivers in Paul O. Williams' The Fall of the Shell? Set in the aftermath of a nuclear war destroying the US, some refugees build cities along the Mississippi and hide away in them. Threerivers has hidden caves where the stone for the city above was carved from the bedrock and the hero Brudoer hides there for yonks, spying on those living above. Don't recall any super sonics, sorry!

I hadn't thought of that one.
Well done. but you don't get the MBP for the one I was thinking of.
And meanwhile you have excluded everyone else from the other MBP. Very "Mornington Crescent".
Place 1 : Moonraker ; Wildblood ; no MBPs. Place 2 : TBA
Place 2 : TBA
Place 3 : TBA
Place 4 : TBA
Place 5 : TBA

"Opening log for Oolite version 1.90 (x86-64) under Linux 6.14.0-24-generic at 2025-07-30 14:50:18 +0100."I'm big-enough, old enough and ugly enough to find that (hidden) file and read it.
The average user next-decade ... no, they'd expect something in the splash screen or in-game menus (if they got that far .. ?

One for the To-Do list.

At least on Linux *-test builds, the major version (e.g. 1.91) and build date appear in the window title. On dev builds, the full version name appears in the top of the screen.

And you can run the game with the -showversion parameter, which will display the game version on the startup screen as well.

Standard builds too.
I've never been tempted by the "dev" builds.
