I was under the impression that they were when I was informed to copy the Adder list and that has the dimensions entry included! But I will leave it out now since it is not needed.maik wrote:Correct, dimensions is not needed anymore. It will only be displayed, if width, height, and length are not given, but then volume cannot be calculated.
I was thinking that it should be sortable. Then, this morning after a good nights sleep I realised that it would not be able to give a proper sorting, that is what the volume column is for.maik wrote:I just checked and it looks ok to me. What is it that does not work?
Sorry for not making this clear earlier.Fatleaf wrote:I was under the impression that they were when I was informed to copy the Adder list and that has the dimensions entry included! I was just re-reading through the instructions you sent me and you did make it clear. I just didn't read it properly. So it is my error and I apologise for it.maik wrote:Sorry for not making this clear earlier.Fatleaf wrote:I was under the impression that they were when I was informed to copy the Adder list and that has the dimensions entry included! How about using Transclusion? That allows the content of one page to appear in another.Smivs wrote:I appreciate and understand what you are trying to do here, but it cannot possibly be 'best' to have three pages instead of one! Also, I have to believe that people looking up my OXP will want all the info together on one page. It seems crazy to have the OXP 'detailed' on one page without most of the important details ie the ship descriptions and info. And if I keep the page largely as it is (with all the info pertinant to it) there will be mostly pointless duplication on the two ship pages.maik wrote:Yes, that would be best: one page per OXP with link to each page for each ship. Exception: If there is only one ship in an OXP then both can have the same page.Smivs wrote:So how should I deal with something like the Clippers? Two ships (Python and Boa Clippers) in one OXP. Am I supposed to have three pages now - one for the OXP and one for each ship?
I'm sure this isn't the only multi-ship OXP like this...there must be a better way to handle this, surely.
This is the template mechanism of MediaWiki. I'm not so sure we want to make every ship where the author put more than one infobox on one page into a template...SandJ wrote:How about using Transclusion? That allows the content of one page to appear in another.
I shall give it a go right now with the Dragon and its 3 variants and see how it looks ...
Heh Seems like I just learned a new trick--thanks SandJ for testing it.maik wrote:This is the template mechanism of MediaWiki. As I wrote above: They would allow you to assemble your main page from other pages (e.g. have main content in the main page and ship infoboxes on other pages that are then transcluded), but you would still have to work on multiple pages for the updates. Might as well work with non-transcluded pages if maintenance is your concern.Smivs wrote:So are transclusions OK then?
