Asp and Fer-de-Lance tend to fuel-inject right at you (me anyway)
and either ram or fire a missile at the last moment. If the time
it takes to destroy a missile were somehow proportional with the
(log or sqrt of) the distance you could still get those.

I think they do.
far away missiles pop after a second, those fired at close range detonate instantly.
(fun to see a pirate fleet attack an escorted trader with missiles, them use ECM) pretty. 8)
