Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Now, now, there's some nights when you'd rather return home with a touch less than 100% to your integrity, just so you know you've had a good time!Amah wrote:<Waves> Hi there, getlucky. May your ship always return safely home with a hull integrety of 100%
And the new commander's screen name is GetLucky, after all.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Greetings
Just joined. Thought I'd give it a go as a blast from the past. Originally got the Amstrad CPC version when it first came out and still have the box and all the goodies inside. Played countless hours (actually, I think I waited countless hours for the damn thing to load from tape...30mins if I remember!!)
Anyway, got it set up with X52 joystick and system specs are AMD quad 3.20GHz, 8Gb RAM and Radeon 6850 1Gb, Win 7 64bit SP1.
Having fallen in love with this version from the outset and within a week totally tricked out the Cobbie, I have also downloaded a multitude of OXP's. However, things started running really slow when I entered systems with a pirate carrier and 7 or 8 pirate escorts in tow. FPS went down to around 4!! So, deleted carriers with turrets and pirate coves and FPS back to 60+. No biggie, but wondered if anyone had similar experience?
Have read loads of subjects on these boards and you all seem like a decent lot!
Anyway, happy hyperspaces and may fortune favour the bold!

Welcome aboard, Commander!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Even your screen name/avatar are a blast from the past!
Does your ship come with mystery-solving teen girl detectives, perchance?
(And now I'm picturing a Witchspace Drive powered by tiny dinosaurs in a hamster wheel made from sticks.)
Unga-bunga, me welcome you to forum.

G'day Captain_Caveman, and welcome aboard!
You can probably add the Pirate Coves again without any issues.. hopefully Norby will spot your problems about the Carriers, and weigh in on it.. (his computer is a bit of a beast, so he tends not to notice FPS type problems with his OXPs. )

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi there,
Just wanted to drop a line and introduce myself between system hops. Used to play FE2 religiously about 15 years ago on the PC, and I'm very excited to venture out into the customisable world of Oolite. I love that the flexibility of the game means that you can effectively tailor your own universe from the OXPs that are available. Currently, my Ooniverse is made up of the following extras:
Bullet Drive
Commodity Markets
Escort Formations
Smugglers - The Galactic Underworld
Station Dock Control
Total patrol
Untrumbled
Variable Masslock
Cabal Common Library
Planner
Generation Ships
Liners
Anarchies
Commies
Dictators
Feudal States
Rescue Stations
Galactic Navy
Imperial Courier
I'm currently docked at Zaonce Station in my Cobra Mk III 'Squire of Gothos' with 135.4 Cr to my name. I'm thinking of doing a 'Captain's Log' in the fiction section, if anyone would find that interesting.
Happy flying!
