Love it !
Space Dredgers These immense factory ships are to be found wherever there has been a war, or a Thargoid invasion, or a natural catastrophe. More than forty miles long, the dredgers are a life-form to themselves. The Dredgers are huge cities in space, feeding off debris and ruination. Heavily armed, and with fleets of reconditioned fighter ships, they are to be avoided at all cost.
Maybe that's the way to do dark textures.
Place them on enormous models so that it's difficult to lose sight of them on your scanner but they don't also light up like Christmas trees half way across the system.

Getting in trouble again (or, How to Make an Adder Look Menacing).
Always though that model made the adder look rather like a tank for something with only one energy bank...
Griff's new one looks rather more fraigile and even more cool IMHO

Nice facelift.
This would call for a female version in pink/purple.
And does the color wear off in atmospheric landings, combat, age or bad maintenance status?

Only Griff has managed that (just the one OXP: SpecGloss Sidewinder):

We need him back. At least he needs to share that wisdom.

Griff was here two weeks ago. He drops in regularly and has been producing his SpecGloss models at a rate of one every four months or so.
I'm perfectly sure that our texturers (cbr, et al) could replicate it if they wished. The problem is that it is possibly problematic! Griff's texture changes according to the value of the ship (affected by need for maintenance). But there are probably other factors being ignored.
The previous attempt to do something similar was by Smivs, a decade or so ago. He had an alternative texture for damaged ships showing laser scoring. But the scoring on every ship of the same model was the same, and the damage appeared in the same place whether one had been shot in the front or the back. He found it quite unsatisfactory and eventually gave up on it.
