Heh... a bit like Statler and Waldorf, eh?

I think it simply means that the first to reserve a name gets it - nothing to do with pledge order.
Have you read this crazy thread?
Not so, Wolfie. I've read through the whole thread, and based on what's said on the web app & what the devs (Michael) have written, I agree with this:

Ok, I've scanned several pages of this and this is what it looks like to me.

1. Every pledger has by a certain date a chance to make a first choice of name.
2. Pledgers who make unique choices will get their name.
3. Conflicts will be resolved based on pledge order.
4. Lower ranked conflicts will be asked to make a second choice by a certain date.
5. Repeat from step 2

Basically every pledgers' first choice has a higher priority than any pledgers' second choice.

Seems reasonable with a minimum amount of faffing about.
Early pledgers are more likely to get their first choice of name.

Moral of the story - choose wisely.
Stupid an unnecessary thread which only served to make me feel that this Toebs character is a very difficult person, easy to dislike. Well, I did reply, so I'm not that much better myself... :P.

You should read his proposal for a balanced budget economy. Basically no trading with NPCs which implies crafting and auction houses for players to trade with each other. I have a feeling Toebs wants E:D to be another Eve.

I agree, although I haven't bothered to read all of his threads.

Much ado about nothing in the case of character names, I'd say, as the possible problems only concern the people who want to name their commanders Gandalf, Han Solo or Superman (deserving an instant "ignore" from me). Anyone with a bit of imagination should be able to come up with a unique name.

It really seems that people like Toebs think that they can sway the developers' minds by being very loud on the forums. I guess such things have helped with other online games in the past (and ruined them)... I just hope Frontier is immune to such manipulation and that the DDF forum is not filled with people like Toebs...

I'm only following the fan creations forum, low quantity and more considering thinking in there!

I do consider thinking fairly often, but most of the time I think that thinking is really too much of a hassle... Err... :D

I tried it with "Rorschach", because I figured, my blog and my handle here, and "hamster" would sound a little silly. And surely nobody would name his Jameson after a psychological test, named after a swiss doctor.
Then I realized there are probably a lot comic fans out there, who have pledged earlier than I have... :? Still pending. There's hope. :D

I've klicked the link and read the first two pages—and I'm already bored.

Except for this little peek I haven't seen any reason to visit those forums—the KS comment sections made me cross already, and I'm only expecting more of the same.

I've chosen 'Drew Wagar' as my commander name. Has a nice ring to it I think. If there are any conflicts I'll just have a strop, that generally works.

Cheers,

Drew.

The only trouble with that is that people may come looking for you in the game (especially if they don't like the new book).
