What began as an attempt to repair tense EU-Turkey relations has turned into a diplomatic spat that has been dubbed "sofagate".
Excuse me while I collapse into paroxysms of laughter!

Is this the return of the Ottoman Empire?

<sniggers> Ahem! I'll just light up a Chesterfield!
On a more serious note, the return of empire is something Erdogan would like!

Psychedelic drug psilocybin, found in magic mushrooms, is as good at reducing symptoms of depression as conventional treatment [...] But when it comes to actively improving people's well-being and ability to feel pleasure, the psychedelic drug may have had a more powerful effect.
We've known this for decades, but Big Pharma and the trick cyclists aren't keen! Expletive deleted!

I think you have the wrong targets for concern, BigPharma loves this stuff, who do you think is selling it? Just like homeopathy etc, look behind the label and you see its our old friends raking in the cash. FWIW its the same with renewable energy, its largely run by Big Oil but lots of nice green logos slapped all over it.
It is rather "culture" and government that doesnt like the idea of shrooms etc being used as medicine. Same with legalisation of recreational drugs, its the politicos blocking it, not the BMA.

I'm well aware of who's behind the labels, and of the establishment's likes and dislikes.

The Premier League is to bring in a new owners' charter to stop future attempts to join a breakaway Super League.
Wasn't the Premier League itself a breakaway league?

Familiar ring, indeed; hard to feel any sympathy for ManUre fans (at least, those in Manchester), 'we don't need to win to make a profit' speaks volumes.

I feel your pain! After 101 years in the Football League, my hometown team were relegated to the National League on Saturday!

Can't we just put out a contract on them with the Black Monks?

I now have visions of a Black Monks Gunship landing on the Old Trafford pitch and causing chaos!

Ouch. Perhaps I could point out Doncaster's revival over recent years as encouragement.

During the Krikket World Cup, final over?
I'm not sure I'm quite up to speed on these various ball games. The aim is to hide the ball inside one of the players, isn't it? In which case, the solution in football is easy - tape a ha'penny bit to the ball and watch the FIFA bureaucrats try to autosodomize themselves with the ball.
On which thought, I should point out that goatse.cx has been a reasonably dull email provider for the last few years. My account should be up for renewal soon.

It will enshrine in law that animals have the capacity to feel hunger and pain, and are aware of what is happening to them. It will apply to vertebrates, but not to animals such as octopus and squid.
I'm outraged! A smart critter, is the octopus!

They are … I suppose it should come as no surprise to find the government lagging so far behind contemporary research. There's a good piece here:
