Re: Split: Re-scaling experiment

On ambient light. It seems to be the case that without shader influence, the extent to which the dark side of the planet is visible is also the extent to which the dark side of a ship is visible. So a value like 0.6 for example has the quality of being too much for a planet surface yet still falling short for a ship surface.
Fairly obvious I suppose but perhaps worth spelling out.
I've tweaked it slightly to these values:
No speed or laser range changes required for the above test but nearly every item has been rescaled.
And in case it isn't already obvious to anyone: if you don't scale planets, suns and distances at the same time then it will look a bit ridiculous. Fun but ridiculous

This, however, is a lot of funRedspear wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 3:00 pmNow that I've got more freedom to scale things independantly of each other (and somewhat surprised by how close that mk3 was on the scanner) I'm going to try the following:
Scanner x1
Fighters & multi-role x2 (incl. cargo pods etc but not thargons)
Freighters and stations x4
I've tweaked it slightly to these values:
- Scanner & Thargons x1
- Fighters x2
- Multi-Role x3
- Freighters & Stations x4
- Combat is both a little easier and much more visually exciting.
- 3-4 pirates can still be enough to take down a combat rusty (but experienced) pilot armed with a beam laser and some missiles. Some I won, some I lost.
- At x3 the mk 3 will have to match rotation again in order to dock - it won't have to match it particularly well but it will at least need to consider it (at x2 it can almost ignore it).
- You see the ships much more clearly so they're more often identifiable and much prettier in game rather than just via screenshots.
- Some of the freighters might be identifiable on the edge of the scanner but they're still small at that range.
- The km distances given by the scanner targeting enhancement seem even more improbable than they used to but not sure that's a significant casualty.
