From what I understand, the historical Tisquantum got around quite a lot. Both sides of the Atlantic, and more than once. Welcome to Docking Station Zee-bee-dee, and don't forget to visit our duty-free canteen, traveler.Tisquantum wrote:ETA: Welp, I meant ArcElite, didn't I? G'day Tisquantum, and welcome aboard!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hi Ramen,
welcome to the Board, one of the friendliest you'll find, and often fun too, as is the game. Enjoy!

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Thanks again to Smivs, and also to Cody, Layne, and Diziet Sma for the welcome, as well as anyone I might have missed (which I am quite good at, even with fancy red-lighting crosshairs).
And Ramen, welcome, and it's your turn to buy the beer, you know. Because your name makes me hungry.
Good catch on the Tisquantum history, Layne. Yes, I decided that might be a good name when I read that he chose that name for himself, and that when he walked up and introduced himself to the English he was basically saying, "hello, I am the wrath of God." I don't know if it's true, but it's a great story.
I also fondly recall my trusty Cobra III, "Tisquantum Singularity". I had to let the computer randomly name my next two ships, until I realized I could fix that by removing the OXP/Z for random ship (and commander) names in the ship registry. I was confused for a bit, but happy to see it was not the "random ship names" addon, which I love.
I would've been back sooner, but I've had to replace some network gear due to lightning. It happens a lot here in Florida, but it's probably well-deserved, really.
Rambling now, I guess. Peace, and may your ships ever be untrumbled.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
My best friend got a BBC around 1984 and soon my bedroom walls were covered with photocopies of the Elite manual.
I've not played a computer or console game since. I just felt nothing could ever equal that immersive magic of two 11 yr olds living for missions no-one else could comprehend. That was it for me. I was to be an Elite widow. I didn't want anything after.
I find this thread so moving and sweet, reading about everyone else's stories. We knew you were out there. Now the mid-80s feel as vast as Elite did then. And this game's still magic!

Hi gwrach, and welcome to the Board.
Yes, we were out there, now we're in here, albeit with less hair and fewer teeth etc

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Greetings Commanders,
It seems I have spent waaay too long drifting lost in Witchspace... the forum has locked out my old login name, Commander Mysenses
Any ideas how to get it back?
Tried the retrieve password thing, but comes back with an error.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
