That message actually only means that the code was interrupted somehow. In your latest log there must be a reason logged for it. It could be a really slow computer but more likely its a programming error I like to hear about.
Here is what latest log says (the part which seems to be related with the problem):

Code: Select all

23:31:15.011 [script.javaScript.exception.unexpectedType]: ***** JavaScript exception (Random_Hits 1.4.10): TypeError: System.infoForSystem(galaxyNumber, targetSystem.systemID).routeToSystem(thisSystem) is null
23:31:15.011 [script.javaScript.exception.unexpectedType]: ../AddOns/RandomHits1.4.10.oxp/Scripts/oolite-randomHits.js, line 960.
23:31:15.179 [Random_Hits]: Succeeded in generating 2 hitpages. You should only see this message with Oolite debug builds or in release builds at slow computers.
23:31:28.265 [Random_Hits]: (Hatred : 167. Events Timer : 196. Dockings : 12. Events Number : 1. Special Mission Timer : 196. Revenge Status : NO. Time to Strike : QUITE_SOON. Revenge Jumps Made : 0. Special Mission : WAITING. Master Timer : 196. Dice Roll : 18)
23:31:33.214 [gameController.exitApp]: .GNUstepDefaults synchronized.
I have not much idea what all that means, but it seems that there is indeed problem with some routes, because of the line "System.infoForSystem(galaxyNumber, targetSystem.systemID).routeToSystem(thisSystem) is null".

I fixed this bug some weeks ago but waited with uploading till yesterday. You could try version 1.4.11
I try that. Thanks for the heads up that it has been uploaded. I'll let you know how it works out.

The OP in this thread is out of date, just in case anyone was wondering.

The wikipage http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Random_Hits_OXP has the new 1.4+ download links etc.

I know, but only the originally poster can change the tittle and I don't want to have this topic all over the forum, so i stayed with it.

Maybe one of the moderators can remove the version info of the topic so is just becomes: "Random Hits OXP"

Version 1.4.11 and 1.73.4.4580

I've got some glitches in the Random Hit's Mission Screens. This shot is from my ongoing commander who had an existing mark on the upgrade to 1.4.11, but I also had the same with a fresh Jameson. That particular mark had an unfortunate accident whilst hyperspacing away from me so I only got a consolation 100 credit reward - the reward screen was messed up as-well.

No errors in the log file but I've posted the header so you can see what else is installed, I've also posted a snippet from the save listing the random hits missionVariables. I completely deleted the random hits.oxp, redownloaded and reinstalled.

edit to add - looking at the missiontext.plist it looks like there are lots of missing [] around the mission_variables....

That was no bug in random hits, but in trunk. That bug only lived a few days day in trunk and is corrected in rev 4583. (introduced in your version 4580)

For missionscreens there are two places were variable replacement takes place. First all variables within [] are replaced, than in a second pass those without brackets are replaced. (I assume the second one is left in for historic reasons to keep old oxps compatible). But mission info is stored in the same directory as mission variables. That had as result that when using the scriptname in a message, it was replaced by the mission info. This bug was already in 1.65 but it is rare that the scriptname is used in a message. Rare but not impossible, because last week I player Lovecats that uses 'wedding' as scriptname. And I had a missionscreen with the word 'wedding' in it. Because of a typo in my fix it stopped expanding all variables without [], and not only the one I wanted to prevent.

Anyhow that is fixed now.

Absolutely love this addon, it's one of my mainstays as I work up to the 1281 kills for the next original game mission in G3.

One minor issue:

* Some spelling mistakes here and there. If someone tells me what section of what folder to look through I can find those mistakes.

EDIT: think I found the file: "descriptions.plist" - is that it?

Here I am again, sorry guys!

Chasing down a hit on Random Hits, its tells me to go kil him when I hyperspace in but going back and forth to the planet/space station and I can't find the bugger!

Did take my time arriving at the system initially, will he have buggered off?

Thanks again :)

There's always the possibility that someone else got him, perhaps a pirate.

You can try flying back to the witchpoint, if you reach the station without seeing him. He should be found in the spacelane, but not always.

If you find a mark and he jumps then you need to chase him by flying into the mark's own worm hole. If you do Oolite generates the mark's ship by the witchspace beacon at the same time you arrive. (Simulating both your ship and the mark's ship using the same hyperspace tunnel). If you use the hyperspace anayliser to check where he has gone and then jump to the same system, not sure Oolite will generate him at the witchpoint (Simulating him buggering off due to different arrival times). Marks insystem fly between the Station and the Witchspace beacon. So if you set you ASC to N on jumping in you should come arross him. If you reach the station, set to W and fly back.

Need to chase him by flying into the mark's own worm hole.
Problem is I've never seen him at all to see his worm hole or any evidence of him. I'm hyperspaced in, flown to planet, flown back to start, flown back to planet, hperspacedback out and back in. nothing :) guess he may already be gone/dead as jazhaz says. :?
