Clues are too obscure, Time Travel, First Encounters with Little Grey Men, Jackpot Trip, Dimensionally disproportionate ship, Very common themes in Science Fiction.

I even tried with lots of Google, but the book doesn't ring a bell (probably never heard of it) and I couldn't find a clue when using search engines ...

OK, pure google-based guess here, but are we in Samuel R Delany territory here? He's not a writer I've read, but his short story "Prismatica" does at least contain a Grey Man (as opposed to a little grey man ...).
