Good ploy, maybe an additional topic folder for people talking tactics, hints, etc, might be good?

Wow. That was an interesting read.
I completed the Constrictor mission at the weekend, before stumbling over here. I read something over on an original Elite site that mentioned this mission, where it said the Constrictor is impervious to the energy bomb.
Er, that's how I destroyed it. First time I met the son of a gun I blasted away and he ran. Couldn't find him so hypered out and in again. Picked him up, again I won the first round, and again he started running. I thought 'sod this' and detonated my energy bomb. Bam!
(v1.22)
I also seem to have read that mission 2 is in Galaxy 2? Damn damn damn. . .

OoFrustrated...
I got the all the messages in Galaxy 1, followed the obvious to Galaxy 2... To find.. nothing... I already had purchased a Galaxy Hyperdrive unit before the mission appeared. According to an earlier poster in this thread, he had to go back and repurchase a Galaxy Hyperdrive in order for the Constrictor to appear.
Well.. I don't have a saved game prior to going to Galaxy 2 so I can't do that. Does the mission script require a hyperdrive is purchased after you get the message that the constrictor had one fitted and used it?
Am I screwed now? Do I have to come with 40,000 credits to go through all the galaxies to get back to galaxy 1 so I can buy a hyperdrive again?

Don't think you're screwed, heh.
You don't have to re-buy G-drive, I didn't have to, but it took me a while (quite awhile, I might add...) flying around, hopping from system to system, in Galaxy 2 before I got a new clue... (they're at the bottom of the planet info screen, and sometimes I don't check those, just live off shooting/scooping asteroids and pirates... Or juuicy traders. Then follow the clues until you get 'there's a real dangerous villain here' (or something like that..)
*that* is the system where he is located. I initially missed him, so I jumped to another planet, then back to that system... And waited a bit. And there he was.
But not for long

Alrighty...
Well I managed to find the Constrictor.. I killed it with lasers only.
I didn't receive any energy unit upgrade like I supposedly should have.
Was I robbed?

Lucky you. As soon as I got to Galaxy 1, I read that he bought, and used, a galactic jump... I jumped into Galaxy 2... and so far have been to 29 planets, and still no word...
please, can anyone give me a ddirection here... I'm going nuts!!!

It's been some time since I did the constrictor mission so I may be misremembering... Having said that, I believe the clues given to track him down are on the planet/system info screen (F7). If you don't look there you won't get any clues. And this should occur at planets close to the one where you jumped into galaxy 2.
Hope this helps.

As mentioned, the "hints" (they blatantly tell you) for where to go next can only be read if you hit F7 while at a system that's part of the hunt. It doesn't matter what system you are examining to obtain the hint, but you must actually be in a system giving one.
Once I dropped into Gal2, I started hopping from system to system inside the 7ly range of my original starting point (Orrionti I believe). After ~12 jumps or so, I found the trail and started following it. ~10 trips got me through 5 more hint systems, with the next to the last one stating something to the effect of "if you really want to fight him, go here." Constrictor shows up about 3 seconds after you do at the witchpoint, so don't go gallavanting towards the planet as soon as you get in system. Stopping to read the F7 note is probably a bad idea as well
If you do find it and make the mistake of using an ECM missle, he'll hit the afterburners (you need afterburners to keep up with its
normal speed) and you'll not see it again. Jump out of system and back in, and you'll get another crack at it. When all else fails ...

Anyone stuck? After entering Galaxy 2?
The trail is retraceable from Letibema. (yes, sounds like "let it be, ma!")
It's a long run round, but I did some sun-skimming (It's fun, try it sometime) instead of docking. At least I didn't get stopped by "hyperspeed mass-locked" And if you don't want to do the long way round, Where I found the Constictor at Orarra. (not Ororre)
***SPOILER END***
That was, well, Fun!
It DID knock me up to Dangerous, so that was nice
I'd like to know where the next mission is now!
And i put up a personal record on the way: shot down a Fer-de-lance with lasers only at a distance of almost 20.000!

In ArcElite, he was impervious to energy bombs. This was important because he was escorted by eight Cobra MkIIIs which were difficult to dispatch quickly enough before you lost him. So, the smart money was on an energy bomb to take out the Cobras then sort out the constrictor with lasers.
This time arround, I killed him with an ECM hardened missile. A bit dissapointing really, I barely shot him.
