I like Animals FWIW, although I find it's more an album you listen to on a subconscious level, than something like the Wall that requires more directo attention IMO. "Easy Listening" I suppose you could say.

And I think if you wanna talk about epic Floyd tracks then Echoes from Meddle for the win!

For epic Pink Floyd, the four live tracks on Ummagumma are the best. That and Atom Heart Mother are their best albums.

You have to laugh… I was browsing through something unrelated, and came across a reference to Atom Heart Mother. On impulse, I followed the link and found a load of quotes from Gilmour and Waters, trashing the album as the worst thing they’d ever recorded. Either I’m a complete idiot, or I’ve got better taste than four musicians that I admire greatly.

I wasn't going to say anything for fear of someone pouring their derision upon anything I said, but I haven't actually listened to Atom Heart Mother. I think it's the only Floyd album I haven't. And I haven't done so because I'd heard that it's complete crap from more than one source. Still, for the sake of completeness I probably should give it a listen.

Imo. yes you should.
But be prepared that you will most likely get only half the value you expect, because A- and B- side are so different, many will like only one of them.
I really like the A-side, but I despise the B-side just as much. An (to me) over-the-top, "tried-too-hard" attempt at going "symphonic". Bah. I so dislike it when pop musicians go this road.

And it has been a general point of critique towards Pink Floyd (and some others) that they went too much towards, errm, vocabulary, "composed through" music with too much "superconstruction".

btw. - even though I once sold many, many good vinyls because I was so absolutely broke, I still have this one.
And even as a "Japanese pressing".

Oh, and of course the cover art is awesome. cows FTW!

You could maybe like search youtube first for the single tracks ? But listen to them in their supposed order.

So, now, for my 2nd breakfast (1st one is only tea, fruit, more tea and cigarettes ) I shall listen to the A-side once more.

I never knew they acknowledged this themselves.

PS - I can tolerate the B-side a little more, ever since I saw part of it used in a usermade games' title in a really good way.

snork… is your Japanese pressing of AHM the Odeon quadraphonic version? If so, it’s possibly quite rare (and valuable).
The quadraphonic sound sort-of worked from vinyl, but the tape version was in full discreet quadraphonic… sounded awesome, as did the quad version of DSotM on reel-to-reel tape.

Also... is your AHM vinyl labelled wrong... the 'symphonic' track should be side A?

I don't think so, but I would not really know without digging it out from the box(es) with the vinyls, from under the boxes with the books.
I never use them but once, recording them on tape and listening to those instead.

That's probably just been me assigning the A to the side I like more.

If it’s only been played once, it runs to c£50 for the ordinary Japanese pressing, especially if it’s the red vinyl, and has the ‘obi’.

I'd rather not think about that too much, or I might end up having even less records left of my ever so ecclectic but nice collection.

A new computer (=notebook) is so friggin expensive.

Just so that you don’t think about it too much… the quad version goes for over £200.

And over here you can get a new hp mini 311 (can play shaderified Oolite surprisingly well) for about £250 if you look around...

My favorite is either LCD Soundsystem or Modeselektor. It's electronic music at its finest.

Think I might have a candidate for the least suitable music to listen to whilst playing Oolite.

For reasons I'd rather not discuss here, I had The Best of The Carpenters playing. It did strike me as slightly odd to have such songs as "Please Mr Postman", "Top Of The World" and "Sing" playing in the background during a lengthy duel with a tooled-up Asp....
