What about moving the nova mission to G8 for 1.71? I know it's a native mission (based on the mission in one of the Classic Elites), but it woudn't effect the game play of the mission whatever galaxy its in. And that solves the problem with just changing one number in one script! :wink:

I agree, but someone must tell that to the big A. (or should i say the new master and commander)

That would ruin backward compatibility. Playing a old script that checks for this condition in galaxy 4 with a new Oolite would then give problems. Besides, the crippled system is in the save file. That one of my started somewhere in 2005. So when playing with an existing commander that has done this mission in the past the system still would be in galaxy 4

By changing this you put the problems in galaxy 5 for new players and old players keep their problems with galaxy 4. You double the trouble as scripters have to abandon both galaxys. At the moment galaxy 5 is a completely secure galaxy and perfectly for starting a nice new scripted mission. Better let only those two missions have trouble. I could probably add a condition for checking the "SunGoneNova_bool" during a jump. When it fits, checking against a list of key systems for the mission. And when it hits, giving a message to the player that there is no solution for this mission. This at least saves the player from useless trying to finish the mission.

On the problem: I think indeed postponing the Nova Mission by resetting its counter again and again in any new mission in Galaxy 4 is the way to go.

The Nova/Deposed clash is a real pain isn't it, I know it totally screwed my first commander and I had to start from scratch all over again.

There has to be a solution somehow, and hopefully the collective minds of the scripting wizards in this community can find a workable solution.

Perhaps a comms message after completing the Nova mission to tell you that you need to get back to galaxy 4, or a note in status screen that not only tells you your cargo, credits and equipment fitted etc, that tells you the next stage of the deposed mission, ie where you need to be to continue it. If it means a really long journey around the galaxies then so be it.

Actually is the Nova / whatever mission oxp is running in galaxy 4 clash :cry:
