Why not buy a Mussaranavoid yacht? Starting price: CR 875,000. I'm saving for one right now!

or perhaps we could just catagorize it by ai-type? civilians, traders, pirates, police, etc, rather than by specific ships. however, the trophy room could show a list of each ship and the kill counts on it.
Something like you get in Fallout2?

best wishes,
Oscar

875k isn't expensive enough. By the time I've finsihed all the mission OXPs I expect to have at least 1.5 million. Playing your murder here and some of the other dynamic OXPs that are comming along and making a final push to get ELITE will probably see 2 million credits.

We need something completely pointless, really expensive, but somehow satisfying :)

a custom space station with your name on it, perhaps? The "so-and-so" Foundation Memorial Space Station. or a prision... depending on the status of the individual in question.... *cough*hepserus*cough*. ;D

for the truely otrue you could rename a planet after them, or even the system. add a custom system named after them. maybe a blind-jump exploration mission to find new planets or somesuch. ^^

Hey all,

Thought I'd resurrect an old thread. In the spirit of wasting money and adding a little flavor to the Navy OXP, I'm adding the option to buy war bonds (offered randomly). I think there should be some benefit to buying them, however. I thought about implementing a counter and after you purchase say 50 or 100 the Navy hooks you up some how. Any ideas on this front?

i like it :)
Maybe you could have the option to go into the executive lounge at the naval headquarters. There they would offer the choice of a drink or the option to leave. Sort of like the Hoopy Casino but with no gambling :) So expensive but completely pointless :)

Maybe have Naval ships salute you? Fund the war effort, get a little ego-stroking now and then? "Fly safely, Commander"; "Good to see you, sir"; that kind of thing.

If you want some sort of practical benefit, you could offer reduced-price equipment upgrades/refits and repairs in Naval stations and Behemoths (along with an invite to dine with the captain while the techs do their thing).

Excellent ideas... would it be possible to change a station's "price factor" using a script. If so this would be ideal as the discount could very with how many bonds you purchase.

I've just reached 500,000 Credits (and a ship worth nearly 400,000). This means I can buy Q mines for fun and zip about the place using extra fuel tanks instead of bothering to buy it at the much cheaper price at the station.

So should there be something frivolous to spend all this excess cash on?

Perhaps a customisation shop where you can choose from a selection of paint schemes, laser colours and engine colours.

These could be ferociously expensive and levelled so that purple laser colouring might cost 10,000, blue 50,000, green 100,000, orange 250,000 or something.

Then if you had a load of very expensive stuff fitted it would be obvious to the rest of the ooniverse how rich you were. You could then get comm messages saying 'nice ship', or 'show-off', or begging requests for money, or pirates asking for huge sums to not attack you etc.

Maybe further extensions could have a regular customisation competition (every 50 days or so) and if you had enough stuff you could win something further.

Any thoughts? Any better ideas for spending excess money?
Well, i stopped trading, purchased fastest ship in the Ooniverse (Kukri Dragster mkII) and having fun!

But this is a brainstorming here. And as with all brainstorming, a lot of the specific ideas are not feasable at second view, or have to be adjusted and balanced out. And here I find myself in the same line with you, as both of us e.g. feel that 0.5 million credits for a private station/mothership would be to cheap, and that there should be running costs. Thus both of us said (wrote) so.
Even Morrigan costs one million. I expect a small station or even a dredger should be 20-30M at least.

My ship is hard enough that if a missile hits it only takes about half a shield away. So if it's a hardened missile i generally just let it hit. Surely an anaconda would have even bigger shields?
Negative...

Anaconda

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Anaconda_%28Oolite%29

Shield boosters available N/A
Military shields available N/A

so yeah, you do want to be running away
I did fly several hundred LY as Anaconda pilot. That's not easy and completely different tactics.. i wish i had one of those sidewinder escorts with me.
