@DaddyHoggy: My support for drives with ranges different from 7 LY would depend on that the current Elite style galaxies were replaced with a galaxy like in Frontier. Varying ranges don't go well with the current flat layout but they were nice in Frontier. Another nice thing in Frontier was that your range depended on the type of drive, not the amount of fuel. I think that you could even use your cargo space to store extra fuel (might remember wrong there).

okay - i'm starting to get worried again. been playing for ages, racking up my money to buy a Purgatori....and i've never seen one for sale. For ages, trawling between 2 planets, i even got about an hour's worth of "No ships for sale", but apart from that, how does the game decide what's for sale? there's a couple places i go, i'll see pages of Nagas and Ringworms listed, and a few Pythins etc, but so far i've only seen one place selling 2 MkI Vampires - not a sign of my MkII :-(
next oxp please someone : a flashy showrooom where you can order ships to your spec and not have to wait for a random one to turn up at a space station. hey, i want a new one not a 2nd hand one!!

The frequency of appearances of ships depends upon how many player-usable ship OXP's you have installed and then it's a randomised chance. Cut out all the ship OXPs except the one you're looking for and that'll increase your chances. As for the jumping between two planets and having no shipyards in both, it's rare but does happen. Journey to a high TL system elsewhere and see what you can shake up

Once the "random seed" for a planet is done, then the ships there stay fixed. They do change over time, but very slowly. If you just bounce between the same two planets, you therefore see very little variety in ships. If your looking for a particluar ship then its best to roam round the Galaxy never going to the same station twice.

Brown-trousers time when they all go red, ain't it?
Good tactic, WFI away from them until only a couple are in the scanner, turn and kill. Go back to the Witch Point, gather a couple more draw them off and kill. Repeat until a) they're all dead or b) GalCop interferes and gets the rest
I used that tactic and plugged fifteen with the old 'Dubious Profit' (an mpak Python w/Beam Laser + SB's) without recourse to missiles (had none, couldn't afford them!) or E-bomb (sneezed and lost it while sun-skimming
)

At least the sun didn't go Nova on me. That's would put a serious dent in my day. Influenza, obnoxious crew and a sun exploding in my face. Oh, yeah, and 80 unpaid illegal docking tickets.

i had a Purgatori turn up for sale somewhere, so thankfully my fears have been put to rest a bit.
had a funny one on a run to Ensoreus. think i've got an old version of my OXP, cos a GalCop Vampire turned up as Offender, escorting an Offender Python. cops turned up, fight, and the Python was tw'ed righteously. at which point, the cops buggered off, and the Offender Vampire started escorting a Clean Python that had wandered along! :-D it was most odd, but spoilt a bit later when the cops returned and shot her :-(
definiteyl was in escort mode like, followed the Python doing the wibblywobbly-addjust-my-position thing and didn't fire. the Pythin seemed a bit bemused. and i've left it as "Pythin" cos i'm sick of correctiing my fricking typo!
