Even though it'd make my brain hurt, I'd rather switch to Linux than 'upgrade' to WX.

I too am with Cody on this one. Just made the switch recently and am very much so enjoying the perks.

Any change takes a bit of getting used to, and this one I think is quite easy.
I've run Linux for years now. I swapped to Ubuntu from Win XP around the time SP3 was released. Vista was on the horizon, and it seemed like a good time to give Linux a go.
Even back then Ubuntu was very user-friendly and honestly within a week it was second nature, partly because it is such a logical O/S. The menu was easy to navigate and you found things where you'd expect them to be, unlike Windows' arcane (and stupidly-named) Start button.
Many years down the line I now run Mint on both my desktop and laptop. The lappy was bought (cheap second hand) on ebay with Win 7 pre-installed. I partitioned the HD to install Linux, as I thought keeping the Win 7 might make it more sellable if I ever wanted to shift it. I had a look at Win 7 as I'd never used it, and it seemed just as moronic as XP. I was also eligible for the free 'upgrade' to Win 10, so (again for potential sellability) installed the update. For God's sake, it took over a day to complete this exercise! And when I'd finished I had a look at Win10. Microsoft seem to have decided that my laptop should look like a phone! And it doesn't even have software, it's got Apps. WTF!
Anyway, it's still on there wasting disk space, but I'll never be tempted to try to use it for anything. Maybe when I sell the lappy on some good may come from it.

True, but with good reason. I never liked the navigation in Windows - to my mind the whole Start button menu thing is deeply flawed. Win 7 seemed just as 'bad' as XP to me, hence my comment.

Does this 'feedback' comprise (1) what people tell Microsoft about the Windows telemetry? Or is the so-called feedback (2) that 'telemetry' itself?

I imagine 1 is intended, but it's fun to go with interpretation 2 - for that reading amounts to this sort of idea: 'Don't worry, we'd know if you were unhappy with our spying, because our spying would tell us! That's one of the reasons we do it!'

: you may be thinking of Nvidia telemetry, which has a corresponding service, I think (but that can be disabled by various utilities). is there any other service I should be disabling?

Well, task scheduler is something else (something other than services). And I've been there (the task scheduler), been shocked, and done that! And I am on Windows 8, not 10, so that's something, I think.

My sympathies! If you've been taking Windows Updates <shudders>, microslurp have probably backported oodles of telemetry stuff to your machine.

Thanks. I do have two Linux computers as well, though - and a VM of a Linux on my Windows machine. But - you know - it's the usual story; there are some applications I can't do without (not even if I run them on Linux via Wine or a VM). Eventually I shall 'ascend' fully to the 'Linux master-race'.

I'm running vanilla Win7, and I figure that'll do me for a few years yet. The trouble would be if I decided to start playing some flashy triple-A game, such as ED, or wanted to build a new machine - the latest intel CPUs seem to require WinX, which is rather irksome. Ho-hum!
