Re: Parcel / passenger transport
As an example, Griff's ships require an additional OXZ/OXP to get the new roles stuff right - it could have been omitted.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Parcel / passenger transport
Smivs uses some strange roles in the shipdata.plist of this OXP... no assassins at all, but several "smivs" roles. I have no idea how this should be working, but it looks like it could be the problem. But wouldn't somebody have noticed since 2013?
Edit:
Smivs homepage has a warning: "The OXPs listed below have not been optimised for Oolite v1.80 and cannot therefore be recommended for general use."
Edit 2: It has been and should be replaced by The Classic Ships OXP.

Ralph: delete your
The wiki say Smivs' ShipSet v4.2 released in April 2013 and new [wiki]Oolite Ship Roles[/wiki] added in October 2013, this is why no assasins in the old shipset.
Smivs'Shipset-SD-v4 .2_replace.oxp

Re: Parcel / passenger transport
I just had to literally fight my way through the Edrari System in sector 4 with some good paying contracts on board. Assassins and pirates all over the place. And I lost Jones... the first hit through the shields, his first injury, and instant death!

@ ralph_hh.
My old shipset has never been updated for Oolite v1.8 and above, so does not use the new role set, and as you have the 'replace' version no default ships are available to fill these roles. What you need to do is ad cim's shipset compatibility OXP which cim designed to bring old replacement sets up to date in terms of the roles - this will sort this out.
Edited to add:- (having read all the posts since the first one about this ) Yes, you can also upgrade to The Classic Ships, but this is not available (yet) in a standard-resolution form, just the hi-res one, so it may be a bit heavy for low-end computers. So updating to the Classic is the best way to keep the original ships, but using the old Smivs'Shipset with cim's compatibility OXP will work pfectly well if your rig struggles with big graphics, or if you just like the old designs.

That's what you get when assassins are part of the game:
The cloud around the station is made of assassins who will try to follow me to the next system. I counted at least 17...

Re: Parcel / passenger transport
The ramming was what I did before docking... the Python is kind of made for it. But this time I led the assassins back to the station, and some of them hit it. So some Vipers joined in the fun! But you have to be careful not to accidentally hit an assassin while he still is clean.Cody wrote:<chuckles> I'd have some fun ramming that lot.

Ohlala... Whow...
And suddenly the Ooniverse becomes a lot more crowded, hostile and exciting. *press space commander*...
Can't tell how many groups of bad guys were after me, when chasing the last surviver of the first group, a clean friendly group lined up behind me. I relied on the clean appearance, relaxed and they came close (should have been enough to make me suspicious), then opened fire, I guess I have to adjust my awareness slightly towards the clean ships. After being killed, on my second try I made it, but then surprisingly, they killed the Random Hits mark I was supposed to eliminate in that very system
Ok, now I know why you like the parcel business so much!

They are clean, they wait for you at the witchpoints, they follow you through witchspace, you can meet them anywhere in the systems, and they even wait for you at the stations. And if you're lucky, pirates join the fight when you just start hoping that you might survive!

Re: Parcel / passenger transport
The question for professional couriers is: would you assist a fellow courier being mobbed by assassins? Or would you be thankful for the diversion, and cruise blithely by?
