Thanks everyone for their feedback.

I'm just thinking about the best way to release the additional escape pod models as and when they are ready. My initial thoughts are that I would issue an oxp containing the model, texture file and config files.

Then add a readme with instructions as to what needs to be added to a ship's shipdata.plist to make them appear on game.

Is this the best method or is their a better way ?

You only need to add "escape-capsule" to their roles-key in order to make them appear randomly.

Give the different models a different role weight (by adding a number in parenthesis right after the role name, like this: "escape-capsule(0.5)" or "escape-capsule(2)") in order to make them appear with a different probability compared to other alternative models (and the default model).
