I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Luckily, we're living in the future, so we can all carry a small library around on a Kindle if we so choose- pander to our own tastes!

Who needs a flying car when they've got a Cobra Mk III (or better)?

Seconded.. (both parts)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Greetings.

Just started playing Oolite tonight but I did play Elite back in 85, in a Apple IIE(?).

While I was never really a gamer as a kid as I got older, and had many computers, I did find myself diving into many games, including many of the first X4 games, such as Master of Orion, Civilization, and so on. Now I prefer sandbox, Dwarf Fortress, Kerbal Space Program, The Long Dark, Minecraft.

Well, also like Total War and other games...

But earlier this year found out about Oolite and finally decided to get into it. I had to wait till today to get the used joystick I ordered. A Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 Joystick. With it I can control Roll, Pitch, and Yaw. It also has enough buttons (including the common trigger and one weird tiny dial-like-throttle) that I can also control speed, fire primary and secondary weapons, toggle on the ID system, cycle secondary weapons, arm and disarm secondary weapons, turn weapons on and off, target incoming missiles (and I assume ships), and trigger the ECM without using the key board.

Everything else I have to go to the keyboard and mouse.

I figure to play a tad everyday. I hope to get enough money to make a ship like Firefly - do a little cargo, carry some passengers, maybe do a few contracts.
But for now...small stuff. Finished my first run.
Lave to Leesti. Mostly food. Made a small profit even after topping off on fuel.

Now I will check out the rest of the board for advice.

Yeah - started looking at the maps and guides on the wiki to plot out my next few runs. Profits will be low but I hope to build it up till I can get stuff like fuel scoops and maybe better equipment. I have to say, the graphics are pretty good, but Leesti's sun almost made me blind. SO bright my eyes watered. I had to head right towards it to approach the station.

If you don't want to be affected by it you can turn it off. Read THIS thread for more info.
