There is no Elite IV - there is only Oolite. I reckon the Brab-man secretly lurks this board and sobs with each new improvement - wishing that he'd been nicer too us all, his previously loyal fans.
To Griff, Simon B, Scarecrow, the Devs - I love you all - aw heck, I love this whole damn bloody wonderful commoonity!

If these great screenies keep coming at this rate then I think you must invest in an even greater trouser collection

Get yer Trumble-size tissues! The only tissues that replicate so you'll never run out! Only Cr30 per unit! Get 'em while I'm allowed to sell 'em!

The Breadbin turned vicious on the fans and his former partner. Now we savor the flavor that is sweet revenge. This is what he reaps for promising vaporware and launching lawyer assaults.

Griff wrote:i'm not sure why the turrets are so twitchy on the griffboa, i did have a fiddle trying out different values for the 'thrust' key in their shipdata.plist but i couldn't find a cure
I found that they often shoot left and right aside of the target, not hitting it?!?
The Caduceus uses turrets very efficiently...I'm not sure if that's due to the accuracy-setting?
Anyway...great models to wait for!!! Wish I had proper words, but as they said, who would want an Elite IV after this?

Please, can we officially give the mission to Griff & Simon to recreate Oolite's standard ships for the core game?
Good grief ... this is three graphical generations forward in one leap

@Screet - there's an accuracy setting? i didn't know that - i'll have a tweak with the oxp, i actually need to re-do the turret model because if you play oolite with shaders set to low or off, the turrets gun barrel floats about 2 meters infront of the 'ball' thing, just because of that extra strut that's in it that i didn't want to recoil with the barrel
@PAGroove - hopefully the shaders will recolour the paint randomly when i've copied the code over from the griffboa shader, it's very cool although you do get some shocking colour schemes!

Griff wrote:I shouldn't really be spamming this thread with unfinished work, but the normal map stuff that the devs have lined up for Oolite v1.73 is amazing, I can't resist showing stuff off. The decal had fallen off the ship in the first screenie, so here's another one with the decal in place and polygon smoothing switched off, and a lower specular exponent setting (makes the highlight area bigger), still not sure whether i need to paint in hull lights to brighten it up a bit?
Is there no end to this man's genius?

There fixed that for you!
ooh, i feel like Kate Winslett at the BAFTAS!
I should say, massive thanks to the devs for coding in all these lovely effects - i can only imagine it's a huge task to fit all this new stuff into a game that isn't expecting to see it, must also say thanks also for all shader examples and help i've had in the shader's outpost thread, with out that i'd just be sitting in front of rendermonky with a blank preview window and a whole load of error messages scrolling up it in red text.

Wow, hats off to you my good man!
Looking at the BBC version, Griff's is kind of what I was seeing in my imagination, it's like having your favourite book perfectly illustrated

I take none of the credit for the turrets (well maybe the improved look but that's about it), the wyvern meister sorted that one, the coding used in the dragon.oxp worked so well I just had to borrow it.
